Thanks to Senator Wozniak for the update.
Judge Halts ID Requirement for Nov. 6 Election
A Commonwealth Court judge today stopped state election officials from requiring photo identification to vote in the Nov. 6 election.
In an opinion released early this morning, Judge Robert Simpson extended the “soft roll out” of the voter ID requirements, meaning that election officials can ask you for a valid photo ID, but no one can prevent you from voting if you don’t have it.
The decision could be appealed by the Corbett administration and backers of the controversial – and now very expensive – Voter ID Law, but I’m urging constituents to go out and vote on Nov. 6 regardless of what transpires between now and Election Day.
Voters should still attempt to obtain a valid identification card because it might someday be required, but no one should stay home on Nov. 6 because they couldn’t obtain one.
This is good news for many in my district who expressed frustration at the state’s feckless efforts to provide identification cards to the three quarters of a million Pennsylvania voters who don’t have one.
Now, they express their frustration with the administration in the most effective way they can: by voting.

I know that we almost need photo ID to do everything, but, I was never behind this law. It fixed a "problem" that didn't exist and mad it difficult from some to even participate.
The best thing we can do is throw out all the idiots up for re-election.

Just because someone's never received a speeding ticket, doesn't mean they've never disobeyed the speed limit.

What I was referring to was that voter fraud was pretty rare to begin with, thus, we were gonna spend millions to fix a problem that really didn't exist, but then make it tougher for some to vote.
It was unneeded.

And what it was, was an attempt by a party to pull the wool over our eyes. They don't care about Constitutionality, just whatever is good for "The Party". To heck with rights, "The Party" is the most important part of a well ordered society. Also, when reading my posts where I refer to "The Party", please say "The Party" in yer best, thick, Communist Russian accent.

It wasn't shot down, the law is constitutional. What the judge said was that it was too late to have the law start now because people may not have enough time to get an ID. The law will go into effect after this general election. Being that PA is a swing state, the Communist Party gets a reprieve and now any illegals and dead people can vote for the communist and any legal/living communist supporter can vote as many times as they want.
I wish the communusts would be as active in making sure the military is guaranteed to have their absentee ballots count...but they don't support the Commie in Chief.

Requiring American citizens, voting in a Presidential Election, to produce a legitimate photo identification, an item provided free for the asking, certainly seems above and beyond any reasonable expectation,..... apparently by "The Party".

No big deal to me berks but I have several aunts/uncles in nursing homes who wanna vote & have voted past 60 years or so. They have no drivers licenses since they expired many years ago. The nursing home wheels them in a handicapped equipped van transporting them to the polls. They all have ss cards, old expired driver licenses, marriage certs but nothing with a modern day pic ID. My guess many thousands are in this category who obviously should not be denied the right to vote. Not lookin fwd to my time to be in this ever growing category but it may come.

I agree, the question then becomes not that the state will provide free id's, but will they provide free transport and assistance to allow people (of all ages) to get them and will they provide extended and weekend hours to do so? Personally I think people having valid and up to date id is a plus for all parties...but I don't think that as an initiative should be tied to voting. I'm also annoyed that the legislators removed LTCF as an option. Besides the dead voting...or a Daley District isn't the type of electoral fraud committed at the polling booths or that id's will prevent. The type of fraud id's will prevent is something you see in developing countries were you can swamp polls with masses of people. Its inefficient even Putin didn't use these when he somehow won the polls in Chechnya with two times the number of voters in the district. They just stuffed the boxes. I don't think voter fraud is rare at all. I think this law was delayed in an attempt to give PA to Obama.
