I took my 13 year old grandson doe hunting this morning. We were in the stand at 6:20 am. We saw one nice buck and seven doe and four wild turkeys as well as hundreds of warblers and Cedar waxwings and his first Piliated woodpecker. He also missed a doe. My brother-in-law put on a push for him and four nice doe came by the stand at a fast walk, I told him to take the easiest one for him, he got rattled trying to decide which one to shoot at till they started into the pucker brush and he had a clean miss. Lesson learned and a fun day for both of us, I think that is success.

The harvest does not always make the hunt. I am sure he had a blast! Piliated woodpeckers are cool critters. We have a ton down here.

If he wants to go again, then it was a success.

I had an 11 year old out Sat night. Had a 6 pointer come down out of the woods. The boy got the crossbow up, waiting for he shot but it never came. When he got the CB up, he whispered to me that his heart was pounding. I told him that mine was as well.
The previous nite he was out with his grandfather and a rifle, and a 6 point presented the perfect shot at 15 yds.
We had a good weekend.
