I am admittedly very conservative in my black powder loadings. Generally when using sabots and 250 gr. bullets in the .50 caliber bores, I'll opt for 85 gr. of powder. I generally use 777 to avoid the sulphur smell at cleaning but will utilize FFFg black powder if I'm relegated to a #11 primer. My shots are within 100 yds. and usually pay off if I can maintain my excitement.

100gr. BH 209 with a Hornady 325 gummy tip in the correct sabot for a .429 bullet. Accuracy like yee....haa!! Yet, I've never had a deer stop in order for me to shoot it. Must be my par-foom.

My CVA Kodiak Magnum .50 shoots Powerbelt 245's with 110 grains of Loose Pyrodex very well.

It still produced a nasty crud ring though, I'm with BH209 now & never look back. 110 of BH209 gives me the same chrony results.

I have my son shooting 80gr of BH209 with a 245gr xtp.Plenty accurate and not much recoil.BH209 is by far the best black powder substitute I've ever used.

Gonna try this again this year. I wanted to just wait until the "special" firearms season and whack one with a 38-55.....but.....my lovely wife has seemed to arranged to have us travel to somewhere with some other couples on the Thursday and not back home until the Saturday. And I said the whole time......remember....it's hunting season and I would like to hunt more. Ah yes.....words that mean............??
