While bow hunting this weekend, I flushed 3 grouse, plus, heard one drumming Saturday evening.
Gotta love those thunderous birds!

Why do they wait till your right up on them before they go?? Darn things usually scare the B-Geebers out of me ;D The real question is why don't they sit tight and let you walk right past. I love to grouse hunt, just wish there were more birds closer to home, don't have the time to drive 2 hours each way to hunt them. They are some good eating too!

The few that managed to fly into my shot tasted real good---I cooked one in a crook pot and then de-boned the meat and used it in a grouse soup-- grouse, chicken broth, carrots, celery, noodles---mmmm-mmmm good!

The 13th can not come soon enough. Dogs are driving me crazy!!! they are so wound up and ready to hunt. It will be nice, I get a week to "settle" them down in Potter and then we hit the covers.

My brother brought Frost to camp last weekend. He said all he had to do was get out his suitcase, and he also brought a pellet gun along, and she went nuts.
He's taking her to Maine next week in hopes of getting her on some birds for once in her life.

I have learned through the years that I need to pack for Potter without the dogs here! I get my wife to take them for a ride or to the in-laws for a little and I run around and get everything together. If they do "catch a wif" of a pending trip, they sleep at the front door. I cant even pack my stuff the night before to go up to Martz's for pheasants. They wake me up at 4:00 and insist we leave then!!
