Governor Brown Signs California Lead Ban Late this afternoon, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a statewide ban on traditional lead ammunition for hunting—Assembly Bill 711, sponsored by Assemblyman Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood). The deadline for gubernatorial action was Sunday, October 13th
California is the first state in the nation to take such unnecessary action.

LOL, of course it is, but from an environmental view, is it? If lead shot is toxic, then we can assume lead bullets are as well.

What about it getting into streams? I mean, doe sit leach into the soil and eventually find its way into streams??

From what I've read/researched, it only becomes toxic when its ingested. It is an inert material when it's just laying in the soil, and does not cause any problems. Waterfowl was ingesting the pretty shinny pellets from shot shells, and they were finding lead poisoning in some of the endangered birds, hence the reason for banning lead shot in some places for waterfowl hunting. But no evidence that it is harming other animals from other forms of usage. The animal rights groups are pushing it as a form to limit/eliminate hunting because of the high costs.

Steel shot and all copper bullets really aren't cost prohibitive but I'm not willing to give up my lead unless I see some hard proof that it's really harmful. So far I remain unconvinced.
