A new employee where my brother works was telling him that the school district where his daughter goes to school, posts tests online before the kids take them. So, the kids know the questions and can look up the answers before they even walk in the classroom. This is Hempfield SD here in Lancaster County.
IF this is true, we used to call that cheating.
The guy said his daughter didn't do well on one test, so, they allowed her to retake it to improve her score!
Wouldn't want her to suffer from low self esteem........
What is this world coming to?
I'm just shaking my head.

The Corbett Administration is currently conducting an investigation into chronic "cheating" in several school districts, aimed at improving their scores relative to proving students have shown improvements over the years.
According to the news coverage yesterday, these tests were monitored by several school districts and the results "amended" by school administrations to falsely show improvements, when no improvements in test scores were occuring.
Corbett's sect. of education claims it's been going on for years and the Rendell Admin. knew about it, but chose to ignore wide spread cheating.
The spokesman for the state's school teacher's union, claims the Corbett Admin. is "just making it up", or words to that affect and claimed the probe is just a cover up for Corbett cutting school funds. Phooey!

This isn't going on in just PA. Same thing was "discovered" down here last year. Several teachers and school superintendents were fired over the scandal. They were changing answers on tests to up the scores on those standarized tests. Teachers blamed the federal governments new standards that punished schools with lower test scores by withholding funding.
Don't get me wrong, I admire anyone willling to deal with kids on a daily basis, and many are given so many restrictions now days...but we really need to quit finding excuses and start making our children accountable for themselves and teach them the basics again.

Agree on the making children accountable plus getting back to basics! I have the highest regards/respect for teachers!! Especially the one I married 38 years ago!! lol

I am not sure how we can hold our teachers accountable for the failures of the school system when we send kids there from families that put no emphasis on education or discipline.
I mean, these kids have no fear of punishment, because there is none, at school or at home.
I remember when I was a kid, we could hear the principle as he walked down the halls to the classroom of an offender, and then, the three whacks administered to the butt of the offender. Every kid on the wing, KNEW someone just got a paddling.
It did the offender some good, and kept the rest of us on the straight and narrow.

I made it through 12 years of school and never got paddled once. Lost track after the first few dozen whacks and that was just First Grade. I have many friends that are retired school teachers and once intended to become one myself, got distracted and never finished college. Aside from all the other problems with education and the PC world we now live in, the single worst affect has been the growth of the teachers' unions. Tenure/union rules are no subsitute for dedicated teachers. And not all of them are worth the money they now make. Sorry if that ruflles feathers, but in many cases they now dictate far too much of what passes for education.

In today's news: According to an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, public schools and school districts across the state got hit with a one-two punch when statewide test scores were released Friday. Scores have dropped, resulting in dramatically fewer schools and districts making adequate yearly progress, known as AYP. On top of that, state Education Secretary Ron Tomalis said the reason is past scores were inflated due to cheating and fell because of increased test security. While 94 percent of school districts in 2011 made AYP, only 60.9 percent did so this year. In 2011, 75 percent of schools made AYP, but this time it was 50.3 percent. www.post-gazette.com/stories/news/education/pa-districts-show-steep-drop-in-test-scores-654471/

Ever since Jimmy Carter created the Department of Education & the Feds took over, the public education system has been a complete failure...just the way the Progressives planned it. If you have ignorant & uneducated citizens, you can control them.
