It takes a lil time in measuring crabs inasmuch as i caught 170 so far this season but nice to be violation free. Many are obvious keepers so out of the 170 likely only 25% were measured which required usin dem tongs!! lol

Crabbing in the middle Chesapeake Bay has been dismal this year. I went out once with 24 traps. Did not catch a single crab in about two hours. Talked to other crabbers the same day and nobody had anything.
??
Talked to a commercial crabber the other day. He told me he has not crabbed this year at all.. the reports have been so bad from his buddies that he did not think it worth the effort and fuel costs.. He was even more irritated that our tax and spend Governor "OWE-Malley" raised his commercial license fee from $65 last year to $450 this year!!!
Some of our local seafood houses have not been selling crabs.. too few and too high a price, and poor quality.
:/

Been hearing the same Glenn on many areas of the Chessy. Not sure whuts going on.
I was in VA last week & was out crabbin twice and caught 45 keepers between 2 trips which is far less than average. So far this season we caught about 170 between 4 trips. The first 2 were the best with June 14 the tops boating 80 crabs.

Going hang it up for the year now myself. A bushel and a dozen blues for the smoker. Grandson had fun catching escaping crabs with the tongs. Boat and motors prepped for winter. Time for the dog to earn his keep and help acquiring fowl to go with the fish. Have a safe and enjoyable season Loggy. I'll be looking for reports.

What does a bushel of nice sized crabs go for now? There's no delicacy in the world that compares to steamed blue crabs.I can eat them until I'm ready to bust.I hate the beach more than I can even describe. In fact, the only way my wife can get me to go is if we eat crabs at least twice a trip.

Prices are all over the place this time of year Doug. I would say if you can find a bushel of decent Jimmies for under a hundred bucks I would grab it. Im seeing prices pushing in the $200 range. Many times there are local crabbers who sell for far less than market ...direct face to face. I have a few VA contacts but none in this area. I haven't bought any crabs ever since I got into crabbing quite a few years ago..

I don't know if I'd be any good at catching them but I'm real good at eating them lol.I have some family in Maryland and they used to always bring a bushel or two up a couple times a year.I used to live outside of Wilkes-barre and there was a place that would get them in about once a week. They were expensive but still pretty good.No place around here gets them in that I'm aware of.I even miss the cuts in my fingers burning.
