More short-sighted attacks that threaten the long-term viability and effectiveness of sound wildlife management. Reducing the terms of commissioners is nothing more than a back door attempt to manipulate the commissioners into “toeing the line” or risk not being reconfirmed.
HB 828 & HB 798 are on the calendar of the House Game & Fish Committee for April 16, 2013
HB 828 Causer Amends Title 34 (Game) further providing for organization of commission by allowing new terms of four years in length with the opportunity for additional terms through reappointment by the Governor and approval of the Senate.
HB 155 Haggerty Amends Title 34 (Game) further providing for organization of the PA Game Commission by stating a member of the commission may hold office for not more than two terms of four years each, subject to Senate confirmation pursuant to law for each term. The member may continue to hold office for a period of time not to exceed 12 months or until a successor is appointed and qualified, whichever occurs first. Thereafter, the person would be ineligible to hold that office. (The current term of the members of the Commission is eight years). The time served by a member of the Commission appointed to fill a vacancy would be decreased from four to two years.
HB 798 Heffley Amends Title 30 (Fish) to remove term limits on Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Commissioners and to change the term of office to four years.
