Was down opening-up my VA place a week ago. Caught a few early crabs off the pier in-between early spring maintenance. The local commercial guys fishing the Lower Chesapeake near the Bay-Tunnel Bridge were hammering the Black Drum which I pick-ed up a few fillets at local fish market!! Man...it was even better than blackened tuna or swordfish. It's only available in the area few weeks during early spring. Heading back week after first week spring gobbler hunt with my 81 year old crabbing/fishing buddy!! Hard working all this stuff in!! lol Life is good regardless of what some say!!

I have had some guys say black drum isn't very good but every time I have eaten it, I thought it was as good as redfish.

Never tried either fish. I did try freshwater drum(sheephead) once- and thought it was better than a lot of fish that everybody eats.

Anyone ever get to the Wallops Island/Chincoteague, VA area....check out Ray's Shanty. Great local restaurant plus fish market. Normally Ray has fresh grouper, swordfish, halibut, tuna, shrimp, oysters, scallops, clams etc plus soft shells when they're in: Ray's Shanty

Those crabs look delicious! Yeah they were plus loaded with meat. Didn't get out on my boat due to high winds(20-30 knots) so just crabbed from our pier with T-120 Topless traps and kept half dozen males. Still a lil early in season.

Ewwwwww......seafood. ICK. Sorry, I'm just not a fish eater. More for you. Lol Two to three servings of fish per week reduces the risk of death from all health-related causes by 17 percent. Never too late to start!!
