The southern border of my property is a stream that is stocked from about a mile upstream of property to the headwaters a few mile upstream. Wednesday and Thursday the water was out of the banks and actually running through one of my fields for just the second time in the 22 years we've owned the place. It much lower now, but the fishermen will have a tough time wading in the morning. Hopefully lots of trout will be left for better weather.
Good luck to those who get out there tomorrow. I haven't fished the first day since my sons were old enough to do it all on their own. Post pics if you go.

Good Luck tomorrow for sure. More water means more fish! Just cast way up stream.

Like they say in Montana when the snowmelt has the streams running high; "Put it six inches from the bank. That's where the big ones are." And that is where you get the big ones.

No,. I haven't fished first day in years. To many people. Wait a week and it's much easier. Well...that and I fish FFO streams only.

I'm a promiscuous fisherman. I like to fish a wide variety of streams, but I do have my favorites.

Going to sit this one out, water to high and fast along with the cold just wouldn’t be any fun for these old bones.

I won't do any trout fishing until I get to camp for Spring Gobbler then do some native fishing. I'm pretty much 100% saltwater fishing after buying my property in VA.
I know my Dad was a "First Day" guy and we always were out at that opening bell. It was almost like opening day for deer as I look back to those times. Dad & I would in weeks before be out scouting streams for those honey holes, gathering bait and getting all rigged up! Some fine memories.

I crossed the Susquehanna River Yesterday & was unbelievably high & muddy likely mostly from streams dumping in. May be some good trout fishing in the river all the way down to the Cheasapeake this year!!

It's time to start staying at camp and get a few days of work in a row done. If the water comes down, I'll try getting onto Tionesta, Oil Creek, or one of the smaller streams next week. I'm sure the Brokenstraw and the Alleghany will be too high for quite a while. My wife says I worked too much last spring and summer and fished too little. I'm going to try to correct that this year.

She actually encourages my spreading my trout fishing around. She knows I have my favorites, but she also knows I like variety. She limits it pretty much to fishing and hunting though.

It was a slow pick. Water cold. Ended up with 10 brought to the hand. All 8-12 inch rainbows. Never got. a hit on lures. Everything was caught with bait on the bottom. Been going by myself for several years now. Everybody makes excuses for why they can't or don't want to go.

I don't enjoy fishing near other people unless we're together. And the flyfishing gets better most every day until early June.

A DHALO Heritage Select water starts at our camp on Pine Creek in Tioga County. My buddy and my brother helped stock it a few weeks ago. Our friend has been fishing it since, man, they put some huge trout in there. His best was 26 inches and about 4 pounds.
I got some Niti 1 lures last week, maybe next weekend, after I get some work done up there, I'll throw some lures

With two floods after the first two stockings in these parts, the best trout fishing this spring will be in the Ohio River!

Spent a few hours this morning on the local stream. Caught about 7-8 rainbows. Nice to be out.
