Saw some highlights from yesterday's Devils Rangers game. The puck dropped to start the game and the first move from the players on the ice was to drop their gloves and begin fighting. Almost all of them at the same time. The two players that hit each other first were allowed to stay in the game after serving their penalities because they were the "first fight", lol. The other were ejected as secondary fighters.
So the quesiton is why is fighting in the NHL supported and tolerated by the leaugue? Heck, the officals usually let them fight for awhile. Any other pro sport in this country and the players would serve lengthy suspensions possibly for the season plus massive fines.

It was 2 years ago when Pittsburgh Penguin Sidney Crosby was literally taken out with a cheap "chicken wing" shot from Rangers Jacob Trouba. It was a playoff game....Pens were up 2 goals. After the cheap shot to the best player in hockey, the Rangers came back to win the game and the series.
The cheap shot took out Crosby for the rest of the series. (Concussion)
NHL did absolutely nothing to Trouba. No fine, no suspension.
NHL still has a cave man mentality when it comes to the game. Their fans have changed, but not the NHL

Everybody on both teams had to know what was going to happen. Even the coaches. The league should take points away from the teams as a result and suspend the players on the ice and the coaches for the rest of the season.

Many officials are wee fellers, and many of those players are large men. Especially the guys who like to pound. The officials let them tucker out a bit with their swings (it happens fast) before they intervene. Unless they are studs, the caliber of our Doug here, it's a smart move.

Ease Up, Nancy ! RELAX, I'M KIDDING !! Hmmmmmm, hang on. Taking points away is a good way for the sorry-sack Pens to catch up. BRILLIANT !

Hey now....hey now......The Pen's are handcuffed by three big time players that consume a lot of salary cap. The big mistake....and i've been saying this for about 3 years now.....was re-signing Malkin. Malkin is not worth his comp or the status the coach puts him at. If they make the playoffs, my bet is they won't get past round 1

Malkin should have been gone 8 years ago, IMO.

I'm not.We need to stop the limp wristed approach to everything. When I was coaching senior league,my son was up to bat and I saw the other coach look at the pitcher(his son) and point to his head, meaning throw the ball at my kid's head.I called a time out, walked out there and said,if he throws it at your head, walk out to the mound, break his jaw and I'm gonna break his father's jaw.The pitcher heard it,the coach heard it and the umpire heard it.Nobody said a thing to me and he didn't throw at my kid's head.I wasn't giving him permission.I was giving him an order and everyone knew I was serious.

I haven't been able to watch hockey since the 1980 Olympics. To me the game is almost as boring as soccer tom and the fighting is ridiculous. I love watching the NFL, but if hockey ended tomorrow, I wouldn't notice.

Nope.It happened the first time he was at bat so I watched the coaches signal the next time.It was intentional and there would be a price to pay if it happened again.

Supporting fighting in hockey is basically supporting throwing at a batter's head in baseball. If you have a problem with it in baseball, you should have a problem with fighting in hockey.

Hockey is fine the way it is. Only real sport we got left. Let them play and fight as they see fit.

No Gene, what I support is the hockey player dropping the guy who gave him cheap shot. That's one thing that's wrong with this world.People know they can get away with acting like an ass because there's no consequences.

One has to defend themselves. No problems there. That wasn't my point. There are goons whose sole job is to stalk and attack other players. In football, you don't see guys throwing punches just because they didn't like how they were tackled. It happens, but it is rare. If they do, it is a automatic ejection and often a suspension. Kinda scary when football players who often comes from very poor and inner city backgrounds can refrain from throwing punches but white hockey players drop their gloves if someone gives them a side eye.

What's your take on Boxing ? Its boxing. When the bell rings they fight. In hockey, when the puck drops they should play hockey. Heck, in boxing the fighters often hug after the bout.

It' just part of the game and culture. If you don't want a five pack in the head, try golf.Dirt track racing is big around here and a culture I'll never understand. These guys spend months building cars and put upwards near 30k into them.If someone whizzes them off, they have no issue using the 30K as a missle to destroy another guy's car.To each their own.
Two years ago,my son got beaned intentionally by a kid from Brookville. It was intentional and I later found out that it was personal. He stared the kid down for several seconds at the plate and stared him down the entire way to first. After he scored, his new woke coach benched him for an inning.Persnally,I like intensity. In fact,I demand it.Funny thing,a couple months later he was leaving on a saturday and when I asked him where he was going,it was to that same kid's grad party.Once the pecking order is worked out, things run smoothly.
