Would there be a United States of America??
Think back in history how essential their help was in us achieving independence.

In the revolution they certainly helped us finish the war.
I wonder if France would have won the French & Indian war how would things have turned out.
Doesn't matter because that isn't what happened just something to ponder I guess.
That was an interesting period in time for sure.

We repaid the cost in WW2, not that we shouldn't help any free nation in need.

Some good books out there on the F&I war, by Allen Eckert I have read a lot of his books. He will open your eyes on just how brutal it was, on both sides. www.amazon.com/Wilderness-Empire-Narrative-Winning-America/dp/1931672024That Dark and Bloody River , and the Frontiersmen are two of my favorite, but all have been good. That Dark and Bloody River, is the one I would suggest you start out on. It covers the time frame from when we first started taming America and settling the Ohio Rive valley up to and Including the American Revolution. A lot interesting fact that took place in Pennsylvania. Most of it comes from written history.

The only bad thing with reading about the F&I war is the French names are way way too long. I'm pretty sure a few things have changed in the last 275 years though. Sometimes I try to imagine what it must have looked like back then with the fort. I haven't been to the museum since I was a kid and I walk past it almost daily when I walk the point. I need to get my arse over there.

We have the first pretzel bakery in America, and it's been since I was a kid that I've been in it. Kinda sad we don't take advantage of what's right in front of us.

I pass the Fort Ligonier every time I go hunting. This past summer I finally visited it. (Only after 50+ years). Fascination place to stop at and wander through. George Washington's dueling pistols are on display there. (Behind heavy glass of course) They are remarkable works of craftsmanship. The barrels are completely engraved as well.

I wonder if owning dueling pistols was a status symbol at the time, or a necessary evil (something you hoped to never need), or something in some twisted way they hoped to need one day?

Could be both. But those pistols were built for show.
