I never looked up the ballistics of a bolt before today. My old bows are shooting near 275, new bow is 380.
Zeroed at 20 yds, my old bow speed will drop 6 inches at 30 yds, new bow 3. That's pretty amazing
At 40 yds its 17 vs 8.
Didn't think it would be that drastic

If you zero at 25, you should be able to hold just about dead on to 40 with the center crosshair and hit the kill zone without having to worry about the exact range. Some of the super fast bows that are shooting around 480-500fps can be held dead on to 50 if sighted in at 30.

Why wouldn't you want to sight in to be a bit high at 25 ? To further compensate for a shot a bit further out ?

Why wouldn't you want to sight in to be a bit high at 25 ? To further compensate for a shot a bit further out ? Most crossbow scopes have 5-6 holdover points for 20-30-40-50 etc aiming points. If you sight in to hold dead on at 25, the other hold points won't line up and will end up being 34-45-57-69 etc. or something like that which can get confusing in the heat of the moment. If someone isn't interested in shooting past 40, sighting in the center crosshair for 25 and just not worrying about the rest allows one to hold dead on from 15 - 40 yards with some of these very fast bows.
