I was out a few times after tagging my buck and never saw or heard a bird.

There has been a flock of 14 visiting my yard all fall. No pressure it seems from hunters. I've got 12 Washington Hawthorn trees all berried out. They love to pick around them.

Fall turkey hunter pressure is a fraction of what it used to be. Less than 100,000 hunters statewide.

I was looking at the website for the Pa chapter of the NWTF. They have 18000 active members. They claim to have recruited 31500 hunters. Hats off to them. I wonder how many have quit turkey hunting because of the NWTFs influence over the BOC? I know of 1. Lol.

Planned to get out but couldn't due to obligations on homefront. Your retired, lol. Not really a "lol" matter......as my 89 year old mom fell and broke both femur bones this summer & ive been totally tied-up helping her transition from her 105 day nursing home stay to being able to live at her home. If not for my sister's help I would of had to pass on all hunting this year.

With her rehab facility and followup inhome PT & OT she's almost back to her prefall condition. I thought she'd never be back home but her determination with excellent therapy she's where she wants to spend the rest of her life. The PT & OT's did an onsite safety/risk analysis of her home to help minimize accident risks before she was discharged from rehab facility. I arranged for a local builder to make some home alterations per their suggestions. After a long haul....things are finally going well for mom. I also pretty much had zero time for fishing this season as well but am comforted we did all we could for our mom.

I haven't been able to shoot a fall bird in good conscience in about 5 years. In fact, this past spring was the first gobbler I killed in a few years.Even though I know the spring harvest has little impact on the overall population,I have to feel good about what I shoot and I just couldn't feel good about killing one.I have no issue with other doing it but I have to feel good about.I feel we're starting to have too many deer and not enough hunters so I do my part and hammer the deer pretty hard. The turkeys had a pretty easy spring and the population looks better but not to the point where I feel the need to manage it.I just like observing turkeys in the fall and while it's fun to work a flock,I won't kill one as an incidental kill. That's just me.Not everyone has to look at it that way.
