I finally checked off another bucket list item this past week in Emerald Isle North Carolina. Not just my first nice shark ever from the surf, but I managed to beach two of them. After watching many youtube videos on making rigs and talking to a few folks that have had success, I decided this was the year I was going to dedicate some time soaking fresh hunks of fish. I am over the moon with my success. No yaking baits out. Just casting from the beach into the deeper sloughs on the changing tides. The onlookers were very surprised at what I drug up from their swimming holes. Both were caught on 7/0 circle hooks. 86 pound steel leader with haywire twists. 4oz slip sinker on 80 pound mono tail whip leader then to 50 braid. The first was about 5 1/2 feet and second shark was pushing 6 1/2. I think both were sandbar or brown sharks as the locals call them. Maybe the shark expects here can chime in on the species.

Nice! Looks like sandbar sharks but im not a sharker. Mebbie Sharker Maub could chime in! Never surf fished for sharks but have caught a lot of smaller sandbar sharks in the back bays inside the inlet. Most only run 2-3 feet but are a blast on light tackle.
