Not much to report this year Loggy. Was slow but fun. My boy worked his tail off but we only took two Browns off the surf this year. No Sand Tigers. Hit the bay side as well as the ocean side but it was not going to happen. Water may have been a bit warm at the tip of NJ as they were into them up North along the coast. As usual it was my boy who made the magic happen. Good runs on this one and it made my trip for shark fishing.

I am going to give it a go next month down in NC. I have 7/0 circle hooks. I plan to attach a two foot section of #80 wire with haywire twist to the hook and a #100 barrel swivel. Three foot section of #80 mono leader to that then to my #50 braid on my reel. I see my biggest issue as finding a place where I can get it out far and deep enough as I don't have access to a yak.

I wish I could tell you Ridge, but it's the boy who has all the knowledge and expertise and rigs the lines. (Youtube might be your friend on this or a saltwater fishing forum) Use big baits. About fist sized. Curt likes big chunks of dogfish as it stays on the hook better. Fresh and bloody baits seem to work best. That's why we always have some small rods out baited for "bait" fish. I do know that circle hooks are the way to go and with a light drag you let them go with the bait, then tighten the drag a bit and pull back on the rod. Essentially they set the hook themselves and the fun begins. I will say this, rig your rods for a worse case scenario in regard to size. Also large shark can tail slap your line and cause it to fray and break. And don't forget that there's some huge rays you may end up with on the end of your line. They'll test your rig perhaps more so than a shark. Good luck and have fun!

The boy yaks out the shark lines about 100+ yards, but don't underestimate casting with the proper rig and bait. Fish the tides... Key...Early morning (5 AM) and nighttime.
