The Game Commission announced 1,095,000 antlerless deer licenses will be allocated statewide for 2023-24, which is up from the 948,000 licenses allocated for 2022-23.
Allocations by Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) are as follows, with the allocation from the previous license year appearing in parentheses. Hunters should note that WMU 2H has been eliminated and its area placed within WMU 2G. The 2022-23 allocation for 2G combines 2G and 2H. WMU 1A – 46,000 (43,000); WMU 1B – 37,000 (34,000); WMU 2A – 46,000 (39,000); WMU 2B – 53,000 (49,000); WMU 2C – 88,000 (67,000); WMU 2D – 86,000 (74,000); WMU 2E – 52,000 (42,000); WMU 2F – 49,000 (37,000); WMU 2G – 35,000 (31,000); WMU 3A – 21,000 (19,000); WMU 3B – 32,000 (33,000); WMU 3C – 40,000 (37,000); WMU 3D – 41,000 (41,000); WMU 4A – 61,000 (50,000); WMU 4B – 46,000 (34,000); WMU 4C – 32,000 (31,000); WMU 4D – 77,000 (55,000); WMU 4E – 54,000 (42,000); WMU 5A – 40,000 (31,000); WMU 5B – 60,000 (60,000); WMU 5C – 70,000 (70,000); and WMU 5D – 29,000 (29,000).

Pretty big jumps in a couple of WMU's. About 15% increase for the entire state.

Pretty big jumps in a couple of WMU's. About 15% increase for the entire state. My area is loaded with deer. I saw 24 the last day and my cousin saw over 20 and we only saw one that the other saw. I know the ones I saw were not repeats as they all came from the same way and went down into the valley. The herd needs thinning where I am.

A couple look to be 35-40% which are a pretty big jump in one year.

I see 3B where I hunt....reduced this years allocation 3%. Herds pretty much has been stabilized in areas I hunt. Although, some areas in 3B could be benefited by no doe hunting.

I must've missed them There's always a few hanging around in my camp's yard that live on a lil piece of Lewis's million plus private acres. Wish some would migrate to the State land!!

The eastern side of 3B around Tunkhannock is polluted with deer.My brother lives on the border of 3B and 3C and the number of deer is hard to even describe.

Occasionally I take rt 87 and go threw Hillsgrove when I visit my family in Tunkhannock. You can't tell much from the road but it just looks like steep mountains when you drive through that area. The Eastern side of 3B is almost exclusively private property with quite a bit of agriculture. Two entirely different situations.

Yep....... I remember the days when you could spot the large farm fields in/around Hillsgrove and see on average over a hundred deer in a half hour of spotting. Many of the fields are on off shoot roads. Now you're lucky to see a dozen deer even on a good night. Pretty much the same all the way to the Forksville & Worlds End areas. The herd was certainly at levels that needed reduced but not to current levels. Locals that live in the area year round say the same thing.

I thought the habitat was the deciding factor when determining the deer numbers in any area? It seems like we have gone back to deer sightings. Just picking! Ha!

I guess crossbows have not decimated the herd, lol.

The problem I see in and around Hillsgrove is those mountains are really thinning out. It's not uncommon to be able to see 200 yards in the Woods and 100 yard visibility is the norm

Most guys with crossbows... well, bows in general, don't care about shooting a Doe for the most part. Just sayin' They know they have the "boom stick" to take care of that later on. lol

Be interesting to see how the antlerless license sales numbers after Round #1 under the new online process compares to the old Pink process as far as licenses sold. I spoke to 3 of my non-puter hunting buddies last weekend & they had no idea of the new online antlerless process. They all said as always they will get their licenses at a local dealer along with their doe licenses sometime in July or August.
