For me there is no better time to be out on the streams than in the fall. One of my favorite haunts during October in recent years has been Salmon Creek in Forest County. It would be hard to come up with a more picturesque place to spend an autumn day flinging flies. Steep hardwood hillsides painted in red, orange, and yellow with the occasional sighting of a deer, bear, grouse, or an eagle if you're lucky. I've spent some good days on the water there over the last few years and more than the trout, the beauty of the land is what sticks with you. When I hear the name Salmon Creek these are the things I see in my mind... So a little while back I sat down at my tying desk to try and come up with a way to represent those things in the form of a streamer. It had to have the colors, but it also needed to incorporate something from the land itself which came in the form of using ruffed grouse feathers for the cheeks. This is what I came up with, the Salmon Creek streamer... This was my first real attempt at a New England style streamer and I'm happy with the way it turned out.
