Those numbers are about what I expect. Didn't see a bear last year anywhere for the first time in 30 years

I hope. I've had exactly two chances. The first day of the 1991 season and the last day of the 2005 extended season. It's been a long time

Not a bad average Mike as this past year one out of 67 license holders killed a bear. Remember reading actual average is somewhere around 1 out of 50 based on estimated actual hunters in the field. I normally see bear in either ML, fall turkey or reg deer season but have yet to see one in bear season & I hunt every year. Some years not much but i do manage to get out.

There's a guy who has a Camp near me, he's up to 8 bears. Got one this year too. All from Hillsgrove

Yeah really. I know he has taken some of them off Browns trail near Bear Wallow pond. But this years Bear came off Middle Hill which is right where my Camp is. I walk up my lane and cross the road and I'm on Middle Hill trail

Never hunted Middle Hill but have hiked from Hoagland Vista parking lot over to Mill Creek Road around where the Hogback Trail joins. Beautiful country plus some fine Bear habitat!!

My neighbor had a bear trap in his yard over the weeeknd. No clue what the story is.I know that there were over 50 bears killed in the early season in clearfield county.Rifle season numbers were down which isn't surprising considering the spotty mast crop.

Most years I hunt bear with a bunch of guys out of Ridgway. There's an old guy that kinda runs the show.I guess he's supposed to be the bear whisperer or something.Anyhow, there was an article in one of the local papers about and he claims to have killed the most bears of anyone in Pa at 9.I find it hard to believe that there isn't several people who've killed more, especially in the northern tier.

I'll have to ask my son when I get home but I'm pretty sure a friend he worked with dad killed more Bear in Potter than 9

There's several groups who pile them up every year.I find it hard to believe that 9 is the record. My kid would have had 3 by the time he was 17 if other people didn't mess him up twice.

Interesting discussion! I would think that the PGC has this information with it's mandatory check-in program. Likely it wouldn't disclose hunters name but possibly the highest number killed by an individual hunter(s) since program started? Hey Ridge....here's one for you to elevate as you're doing pretty good lately in getting a response!!

Just sent email to PGC. Was gonna use your name as a reference but thought maybe the PGC picked-up on your postings that the bear programs seasons are a "hot mess" and may hurt any chances of a reply!!

Anybody that has shot more than 2 in Pa has to be baiting.

Prior to having a bear archery season,I would average being easily able to kill a deer about two out of every three years, most of time every year.Since there's been an archery season,I haven't had one walk past me.

Got the PGC automated reply that my inquiry is being forwarded. Well my inquiry was fwded to GM and just replied that such info is not readily availble but some of the bear biologists know of some hunters that killed at least 3!! Well....least I tried!
