Bears commonly showing up inside cities and long established towns, is generally a sign they may be too numerous? Bowbum and I were in the Sproul about 20 years ago, bear cub molestation tour. It was noted that one could see hundreds of yards down thru the snow covered woods, on our drive back in there. Zero ground cover offering any browse or cover. The young lady riding with us, asked her daddy why would there be deer there, with so little for them to eat? Yeah that was very impressive that we could see for 400 yards with zero underbrush and I think we cut one deer track in the snow, near the bottom of the mountain, on our drive up there. (several miles)! As for bears and deer; We have plenty of deer around here but fewest bears I've seen in 20 years and fewest harvested by locals in some time. Turkeys come and go and grouse --- zero! There, covered main species but I forgot coyotes and bobcats ---- scant few lately. I'm only commenting on our locality, township and close surrounding areas but I think many wildlife species are down.

My guess is they may need to cut the length of the early season, if they want to slow the drop.

Once they giveth,it's harder to taketh away.At this point,I really don't care what they do with any of the seasons.Hunter numbers and participation get's worse every year.I don't see any decrease in opportunities that will last.If they cut it back,it won't be long before they have to reinstate it.

They can but the BOC is a bunch of limp-wristed,spineless cowards. It would surprise me if they they did something like that because of the backlash.

I had high hopes for the NW Commissioner when she came on board. She has done nothing and rarely even comments during meetings. Will see what happens with the new folks this January. Their first big stage.

My guess is they may need to cut the length of the early season, if they want to slow the drop. Would certainly be a good start. Maybe further refine early/special seasons after studying specific WMU harvest trends in addition applying refinement to Reg deer season/concurrent bear harvest overlap impact via specific WMU's? I remember way back when they first started issung bear licenses there was a cap on total sold. This was right after Bear Season was CLOSED in PA for at least one year maybe more...cant recollect. Don't think thats a solution today though. Hopefully, such wouldn't further add to the ongoing "Hot Mess"!!

The PGC makes this thing called a Digest. It really isn't that hard to look up bear hunting and read the paragraph.

It's a hot mess. š There was a time when ALL the seasons(big & small game), bag limits, firearm regs, archery, muzzleloader etc were in a small minuscule pocket carry type booklet with a ONE PAGE pullout card. Now you couldnāt even fit the āHot Messā Bear Regs into a pocket carry. Ahā¦ā¦not a āHot Messā at all with current full size 72 page Digest Book referring to Bear Hunting in 7 different areas within Digest not including Baiting pages!! LOL

Maybe to you & me but you tell a lot of my hunting buddies to pull up the website you will get a blank stare. They rely 100 percent on the paper digest they get when buying their license. They leave the keyboarding puter stuff to their wives.
