There's no way for me to practice that and I'd probably have to go through several sacrificial lambs before I got it down.I don't doubt some are good at it but I don't think I'm man enough.

Exactly my feelings too Doug plus I really don't need to get a deer that bad.

Unfortunately, it won't help most as most do not practice those shots with any regularity.

My Dad used to hunt the Eastern VA lowland swamped areas where it was buckshot ONLY. Most areas he hunted visabilty was well under 50 yards(actually 25-30 yards was the norm. It was basically jungle. He bought a "Buckshot Special" barrel for Browning Auto-5 12 ga designed specifically for buckshot. I know he made some very close deer moving shots & all being deadly. It was basically like rabbit hunting. I went with Dad on several of those trips just to tag along(not hunting was under 12). I never actually hunted with Dad on his VA trips but I still have Dad's Browning A-5 & its xtra Buckshot Special barrel. I clearly remember Dad preaching to me do NOT take running deer shots.... when I started PA rifle hunting. No way I would not listen to Dad...believe you me!! That instruction has hung with me to this very day. To each there own...do what you're comfortable doing. For me...when I squeeze that trigger....I try to the best of my ability eliminate ALL possibilty of crippling or making a mistake kill. Many times it means passing-up a shot. That's just me.

I don't doubt that some people can do it but I don't feel comfortable.I'm very picky with my shots,be it a bow or a rifle.I also shoot both a lot so I rarely miss and I never fail to recover a deer.I've made some bad shots and even though I recovered the deer, considered it a failure.I hate to see an animal suffer.I was very strict with my son when he started to hunt.I made him shoot a ton,the right way and I made sure he undertood anatomy, angles and follow up.Shooting at running deer was a big No.Anyway when he was 10,we were standing with my buddy(RIP)when a doe and a nice 8 point came running strait at us.When they saw us,they turned and I heard a boom as the buck rolled lol.It was a lucky but good shot but I didn't tell him that.I hated to ruin the momeent but I had to give him hell about it.Last year he dropped a running doe at about 100 yards through the woods. At that point,I just shook my head.

I was thinking while I was feeding the cattle that the only wounded deer that got away from our crew this year was shot with a crossbow. Don’t like it but it happens

Don’t like it but it happens Was that a 100 yd running shot? 😂 Absolutely not. That would be unethical 😂. In fact it was a 30 yard standing shot that my oldest grandson made on a doe. He’s 16 and has killed several deer and not finding that one really bothered him. I’m heartless. One more that won’t be eating my crops next year
