I wasn't going to hunt this year, except to "harvest" a doe for the freezer, likely with the 30-06. So, wouldn't ya know it, I saw more bucks and some decent ones, this year, than ever before. The odd thing is they were in close proximity to the house in all hours of daylight and they really seemed to know they were not in danger. We've had as many as 5 bucks at-a-time sniffin does or challenging each other in the yard. We've had bucks bed down within 20 yards of the house, (in daylight), and I had bucks standing nearby watching me for several minutes when I cut firewood. The guy who lived here in his cabin prior to me was a known game law violator who shot deer from his porch out of season and he had a dog that ran deer all over the hill. So, after 21 years of peaceful coexistence near the house, and low impact hunting in the woods, every subsequent generation of deer has become more accepting of us. These are all different bucks:
