After an painfully slow November for me this far, I caught this guy cruising at about 200 yards this afternoon. I hit him with a few grunts and he came on a string to 15 yards broadside. I almost passed him but with my dismal daylight buck sightings,I decided the perfect opportunity was right in front of me so I took it. He is a decent 8 point and right at 16 inches wide.

Hey Ridge, CONGRATS!! That's a fine looking buck. Bet you had your hands full getting him out of the woods and done up with the heat wave were having.

Bet you had your hands full getting him out of the woods and done up with the heat wave were having. Thanks. The older I get the more I am realizing I am getting too old to be hunting alone which I do 90% of the time. I just struggle these days with getting deer out of the woods and now hunt much closer than I used to. Luckily this guy ran towards the truck which helped.

Few years ago I bought a Jet Sled. Pretty nice for dragging. Congratulations on a great deer!

Congratulations! And The sleds are really the ticket for getting deer out when working alone. I have also boned a couple out over the past three years and if I kill any more that require a drag of 1/2 mile or more, or a long up hill drag, They'll leave the woods in a couple pillow cases. It's easier than I expected.

I'll check what sizes they have. It fits in a 6.5 ft truck bed with plenty of room to spare After looking them up, we bout the 54 inch model. We had a 180 lb bear in it and had a 180 lb buck in it

This is a decent sized fawn in the sled. They are great. They keep blood contained. Loading into a truck or SUV is a piece of cake, one man on each side and slide in.

I am looking at a Deer Sleigh'r. The roll up kind. Easier for me to store and carry around. Anybody have one of these?

I am looking at a Deer Sleigh'r. The roll up kind. Easier for me to store and carry around. Anybody have one of these? 👍👍👍 I have one of both sizes, and have used both on deer, even though I purchased the magnum for bear. After my one friend and his son used it to get a big buck back to camp, they both bought one. Works almost too good in snow or wet leaves when going down hill, it will run over you if not careful in those conditions. In dry conditions you’ll think you are 20 years old again. I carry the the small one with me if I’m by myself or hunting with an old guy like myself. What I did to carry it while hunt is. I bought on of the military web type belts, run it through the middle of the rolled up sleigh and throw it over my head and shoulder so it rides on my back. I also made a copy of the directions to carry with me, my 75 years old mind isn’t what it use to be.🤣 Depending how far I’m from the truck or camp I may leave it there, and if I need it go back and get it, leaving the gun and extra clothing there, rehydrate and go back to retrieve the deer. They are ”slick” one of the best purchases I’ve ever made for hunting. Just make sure your drag rope is fasten to the deer and run rope through the grommet and not attached to the sleigh So your pulling on the deer and not the sleigh. The deer should just ride on the sleigh.

I have a (15 plus year old)Otter Pro ice fishing sled that works well. Similar to the Jet Sleds but a lil heavier build as far as bottom thickness etc. Built like a tank. Measured & it's 58" L & 25" wide. Plenty big for pa deer. Great when terrain' too ruff for wheeled cart. An Otter or Jet Sled would serve well. Otter VS Jet Sled

I have one of the roll up deer sleighrs and I like the sled much better. And, has been said, the sled makes loading the deer much easier even when alone.
Back to your successfully grunting the buck in to bow range. I had a buck moving really slowly into range this morning before it was light enough to see my pins. When it was finally light enough to shoot he was about 70 yards uphill from me. I made two soft grunts and he tucked his tail and slinked off up over the top. It's funny how many different reactions we get from deer with grunts and bleats. I have had them work as yours did, be totally ignored, and get the reaction like I did today.

I have had them work as yours did, be totally ignored, and get the reaction like I did today. That is one of the reasons I rarely call to a deer that has a chance of coming my way as my experiences are similar to yours. Sometimes they come, sometimes they ignore it, sometimes they don't like it and head the other way. If I see a buck and I am convinced he will not come into range, I will try a call. In this case, this buck was cruising and was heading on by. That is when I tried some grunts and it turned him right to me.

I am looking at a Deer Sleigh'r. The roll up kind. Easier for me to store and carry around. Anybody have one of these? Downside to the roll up kind is that you have to strap the deer to it. Unless on really steep terrain the Jet Sled you can just throw them in and go. The roll up would be nicer if taking it with you when hunting as it is more compact. If you are likely to go back to your vehicle, get rid of some gear and then go back for your deer the Jet Sled is nicer in my opinion. Plus like Dutch said it contains the blood if putting into an SUV.
