My great nieces and there mother, had no luck hunting my lease this week, not even seeing a deer.
Last night we took them to farmland. The two girls had encounters with bucks. Adriana had a small 6 at 35-40 yds. It was broadside. Her dad wasn't going to let her shoot, but she, on her own didn't shoot because she wasn't comfortable with the shot. Two weeks ago, I watched as she passed on 2 does because she didn't feel comfortable. Very proud of her. She sure was excited to see that buck tho!
Kathy was with Kate, and used her mouth to call to a big 4 pt. It came to 80 yds, and stopped, came no closer. Still, Kate was extremely excited and we loved hearing her telling the story.
There mom and I just sat under an apple tree on a field edge. I didn't think we had much chance at a buck and were just sitting there to learn about the spot, for next year. Twenty minutes before quitting time, Kelly tapped me and pointed. Two does had come out 20 yds away, above us. I could barely see them, due to the angle. I then just sat back. Within a minute one was blowing at us. I figured the game was up. They then relaxed and just fed. Kelly was caught in an awkward position, and VERY slowly shifted her body to get comfortable again. The deer didn't leave until they saw Kate and Kathy walking back to the truck. Kelly had shot a doe two weeks ago, so she wasn't going to shoot one of these, but she gained valuable experience.
Lots of great memories!! I'm glad I just get to mentor and spend time with these new hunters. I'm blessed beyond words.

Another incredible night last night. My great niece had a spiker come to the decoy 25 yds away. Slight quartering towards shot, it needed one more step to be broadside but it didn't happen.
Her mom, had a nice buck go past at 40 yds, fast, no shot, but one stoked hunter! This is her first year hunting at 43 years old. Adult mentored hunter. Great program
