Hot girls in the yard this morning drew a crowd. There were 5 different bucks but I didn't get photos of all of them.

No, never considered selling this place. We did sell another house and 10 acres we had last December, but this is home. Your "Old Folks Thought" thread re moving off the hill possibly to a rental property etc gave me that iimpression: Old Folks Thoughts ThreadHoly cow, I forgot about that dark moment in my life! Yes that was right after Kate was nearly killed in an accident and I also had not been feeling up to par. Three months later I was diagnosed with lung cancer which explained a lot of the "feeling not-so-good." I assure you any such thoughts were a momentary consideration. But as an actual "consider selling this place," it never got to that even though we kept our options open. Heck we still are keeping our eyes open for another place on a paved road and closer to doctors, hospital, etc. for winter months. We looked at a place near Millville, (close to my doctor and Geisinger hospital in Danville), recently but the guy wanted way too much for it. Even if we bought another place, we would not sell this place and would likely spend May-through November here. We do have another house on a paved road with 3 acres fairly close to here but it's no closer to the things of concern when health is an issue. From that old post; "I always said I'd leave this hill feet first and I always meant it. However age makes things cloudy and more clear at the same time."

I can sorta identify with you BB. I currently own 3 properties which keeps me hopping to maintain etc at age 71. All 3 are the "carry me feet first" out type as you say as far as selling etc.. I can see myself slowly farming much of the grass mowing, snow removal, my "DIY" maintenance jobs out as they become more physically challenging...which they eventually all do for everyone. I now run 3 chain saws which can see eventually just getting a tree service to cut wood etc. I do sorta like running them though despite scaring the hell out of the Mrs & my 88 year old mom!! My neighber just moved to one of those senior communities where all is taken care of and last I heard they wernt happy there. Their reason for moving was as I mentioned...grass mowing, snow removal, DIY maintenance burdens etc. They now pay one of those homeowners association fees. As far as being close to medical facilities...I can see that being a factor which I don't have.

My son and a friend, run about 10 trail cameras here on my place. Up until 1 week ago, there was ONE very average legal buck that showed up, and ONE 3 point. Hundreds of doe and fawn. This past week to 10 days. Many legal buck showing up all over the place. You would swear they were like rabbits, and hole-up, until that magical time of year.

As far as being close to medical facilities...I can see that being a factor which I don't have. Yeah, I went through a spell where I really was concerned about the next couple of years. The other house will most likely be sold to the tenants as they have been there for years and we never hear a complaint from them, (he is a contractor and fixes things as needed), and they pay the rent like clockwork. It is not a place that would benefit any of my concerns about the future. I also run 3 Jonesred saws, (16 to 22 inch bars) and a small echo saw. Since the first of September I have taken down 72 dead ash trees anywhere from 14-inch to 31-inch dia. So far I have about 20 of them bucked and split but I'm planning on an all winter project because I need to be working. We still mow about 6 - 7 acres and I maintain about a mile of cart road. If I can't get out and do physical work, I will be screwed. That day most assuredly will come unless I meet an untimely accident or something. Hey, not a day goes by that I am not thankful for my 77 years.

I can understand how both you feel, Loggy and bowbum, I own 3 properties, a state lease camp, a 17 acre wood land plot and the 1 acre+ home shanty plot, all take maintenance/work. Even though my body is full of daily pain from arthritis, I'm not yet willing to give any of them up yet. I still enjoy cutting my fire wood along with the maintenance on all 3 particles. Luckily my son and two grandsons will help Pap when he needs it. I also realize there will be a time in the next 10 to 15 years, God willing ,I'll be 76 come December 15th, when enough is enough, and I can no longer do any of it. When that times comes there will need to be a decision made and depending on wether my wife has gone to be with our Lord or not, what becomes of me. I will have, hopefully the choice of either going to the VA home or the local county home to live out my remaining days on earth, even though I dread the thought of going to either. This I'm sure of, if I have any strength left in my body, I will be making that move screaming and kicking the whole way. As my grandfather told me, when he was 94 years old, I know I'm not, but in my mind I still think I'm 18 years old.
