And all of a sudden I'm getting less buck pics lol. Should be starting up soon though, last week of October was also a good one for me for deer sightings.

Wish the weather would get a little cooler down here. The bucks are still running around in Bermuda shorts and Hawaiian shirts!

We are getting photos of some really nice bucks, but most of them are at night. I did see one button buck by himself last Thursday. I guess the does are kicking the knotheads out in preparation for breeding. Had a nice eight point at my stand on Saturday morning, but it was before shooting light and I only figured out he was legal from a game camera photo. Son in law said I should have done a "ground check."

Just at the time the Somerset County swings into your camp to have a coffee, and chat you up.

Went to Tionesta last weekend for "Old guy Bear Camp". One fellow missed a bear at 20yds....bear was broadside....he was 20-25' up and forgot about the aim lower when elevated rule. Sailed that arrow right over the bear's back. Bear wasn't spooked. He re-cocked his crossbow....but by the time he got another arrow (yeah.....yeah....I know "bolt".....I never understood the terminology difference. Let's see...straight stick....three fletchings.....) on the crossbow the bear had sauntered into the brush.
And as a guy who use to hunt with a recurve, then to a compound, then forced to a crossbow.....I've said it before and I'll say it again.....I think it's much easier to hunt with a compound bow than a crossbow.
If he had a compound bow a second shot would have been very likely. And if he missed on the second attempt.....just more information to poke fun at during the evening campfire sit!!!

I hate how cumbersome a crossbow is, both on the ground, and in a tree.
I'll be getting a new one in February, something a bit narrower

I think about getting a crossbow every year. But I love shooting my bow too much. One of my favorite things to do at Camp is pull my bow out and shoot for awhile

I think about getting a crossbow every year. But I love shooting my bow too much. One of my favorite things to do at Camp is pull my bow out and shoot for awhile If you can, by all means do it. I've had neck and shoulder pain for years, and it's made MUCH worse by pulling a bow. My bow hunting days are pretty much over anyway, I think. Prefer to mentor my nephew's daughters, and wife now, in that season. Rifle season is now my primary season

My shoulder pain is no problem at 55#. Now, lifting a toolbox and 6 gallon cans of diesel into the bed of my pickup is a different matter.

These new cameras show the progression of the rut, in real time. Pretty interesting.

My rutcation starts November 2nd. Hopefully daylight activity starts to really pick up. I drive about 30 miles one way to work and this week I expected to see more roadkills. Not many yet on my route.

Not many yet on my route. Driving home from camp Monday, we saw a fair number of dead bucks. Most were spikes, for some reason

My compound bow is down to 45lbs. My problem is holding the arrow at full draw for anything over 30 seconds. My left arm just can't hold it on point. The last time I used my compound I wounded two deer in a row because my aim point was too shaky.
No need to just wound an animal because my pride gets in the way. The crossbow works great.....as long as I don't mess up the first shot.....
