Where I'm hunting I've been gettin a pile of coyote pics....and if I were ever in the spot I prepared these coyotes would be within arrow distance. Now, I always carry my S&W Airlight 7 shot revolver with me for PP.
So...if I'm sitting there....crossbow in hand....and plow one coyote with an arrow......am I now permitted to pull the revolver and take a shot or 2, or 7 at any remaining coyote that would happen to bring up the rear?

Nope. If archery hunting deer with a LTCF, that firearm cannot be used to "hunt" with. If you were archery hunting coyotes, you could use your pistol if it is a legal firearm to hunt coyotes with.

Well it sounds like Dave could sit in his blind with his crossbow and S&W revolver during Deer Archery Season as long as he's "hunting coyotes"(rabbit call & all showing intent)??

Yeah.....but how long to wait before "switching back" to archery deer? A day? A half-day? An hour?.....change a written sign that I place in front of me???
Ok...this is where I find some folly in the game laws.
I can take a flintlock AND a bow out at the same time....shoot a doe with the flintlock....but not a buck....or shoot a doe or buck with doe tags, with the bow....while carrying the flintlock...and never shoot the flintlock.

So I went to my "spot" last evening where I get coyote pics.....mebby 4 times a week. I drove my cart so I would not come directly down the small field where I get lots of coyote pics.....and lots of nice rack bucks!
So, as I'm almost to my spot, I jump the large male coyote of this pack. Now, it's 3:30 in the afternoon and I didn't expect him to be out....but I'v also had pics of him out at all times of the day...and night.
He took off.....about 40yds in front of me and ran a good 40 yds almost straight away....made a left ('cause if he would have made a right there's a 30' cliff he would have to jump off...he's not that dumb) and when he made the left he went into some brush...then "popped" out running a good 40 yds that would provide a great broadside shot!!!
But alas....me and my trusty, crusty crossbow could do nothing but watch.
No bucks last night. I think the coyote hooked up at the bar with the bucks and told them to stay away!!!
Edit" Man....it's great to get out into the peaceful woods!!

Man Dave you sure have a serious yote population in your area. I'm lucky to see even one where I hunt nor any sign. There appeared to be more yotes where I hunt about 5-10 years ago vs today. Now bobcats ...another story normally see a few each year always at night..

I only put the arrow on the first pic for Ferloo. I may have to re-post if he complains too much.
