So...last year my 10YO Horton crossbow (The Horton company that went bankrupt) has not been hitting the heavier cross bolts (Factory bolts weigh 410gr with 100gr tip....new cross bolts weigh 435gr with 100gr tip).
The 20 yard scope reticle hits fine....but at 30 yards I have to hold the scope between the 30 and 40yd cross hairs...and for 40yds I have to use the 50 yard crosshair.
So...imagine the calculations I have to do when the buck is standing at 25yds, or 35yds? It's too nutz!!
My trusty old crossbow hit's consistently out to 40yds. So, instead of spending $800-$1,000 for a new crossbow (I'm not spending more than a grand on a crossbow) I decided to buy the TruGlow Opti-Speed crossbow scope. I can set the 20yd crosshair....then the 30 and 40 yard TO MY CROSSBOWS POI!!!
I'll post the results!!

The speed ring scopes are the way to go with crossbows. Change arrows or broadheads and you can adjust for any point of impact change.

I may have made an error in which scope I bought. It's a Truglo...yet when I go to Truglo's website....the Opti-Speed scope isn't on their site!!
WT$..? Is this scope discontinued? I can't find a user manual on line!! Really odd!!
Well.....apparently this scope is NO LONGER MADE!! DISCONTINUED!!!
Man.....I feel I've been suckered in by a company that....I thought....had a pretty good reputation.
Oh well.....back to Cabela's it goes. This is why I bought it from Cabela's. If anything goes south...they take it back!!
Any recommendations Ridge?

Any recommendations Ridge? Yes sir. How much you looking to spend? I have sent many folks to David at Wyvern Creations. He is a online crossbow retailer that puts together custom crossbow packages. So he regularly takes off factory scopes that guys do not want and puts higher end scopes on the crossbows. The take off factory scopes he sells as "take offs" at a much reduced price. His inventory always changes. www.wvyverncreations.com If you don't mind spending around $150 for a quality crossbow scope the Hawke XB 1.5-5X32 is tough to beat. It has the speed ring but the minimum speed is 250fps. I like Hawke crossbow scopes in general.

Thanks Ridge. I've decided to go with the "Vortex Optics Crossfire II Crossbow Scope 2-7x 32mm XBR-2 Illuminated Reticle Matte" and gonna get it thru Midway. I know I'll never need\use 7X, but as long as I can dial the reticles into my crossbow that's all I need. Interestingly enough, I ordered that discontinued TruGlo from Cabela's. I called Cabela's this am....and after a 5 minute wait of listening twice to the recorded message not only say the return address name TWICE....then they proceeded to SPELL IT OUT TWICE!! It's as bad as calling an insurance companies claim department to find out the status of a claim!! Freaking awful!!! And the BIG "C" wonders why they are losing customers? Come on man!! I predict the demise of Cabela's\Bass Pro within two years. PS...your link doesn't work. Double PS....my Horton toss's a 445gr (including 100gr tip) at roughly 270fps. It's never failed me when I hit a deer. I'm going to double check the velocities today via shooting over my Chrony.

Arrrrgggg!!! I can't seem to find the FPS "range" on the Vortex.
I'll look for awhile....but it seems to me this would be an "obvious" necessary piece of information...and when manufacture's don't put that info in plain sight......it's something they don't like to disclose!
Tired of searching the web. I sent an email to Vortex asking what the low end FPS is on their scope.
Now I'm thinking by the time I get this scope, and have it mounted and sighted in, it will be past bow season.......oh well

Arrrrgggg!!! I can't seem to find the FPS "range" on the Vortex. I have that scope. Will look tonight when I get home. If I forget remind me if you still need to know. Just so you are aware, the crosshair is very fine and the center crosshair is 40 yards. The 30 and 20 yard aiming points are above center.

Thanks Ridge. But this morning I sent an email to Vortex asking them the FPS lower and upper range of the Crossfire II 2-7. Lower is 275fps, upper is 450fps. So, this morning I spent some time shooting the two different weight Bolts, and I ran 3 shots of each weight bolt (445gr. & 410gr) to get what it's actually shooting. So, the heavier 445gr goes an average of 275fps, and the lighter 410gr bolt travels an average of 285fps. Now, I don't consider the arrow velocity all that much (I don't have arrow flight fundamentals in my head....like I do bullet fundamentals) but Last night I was doing some research on arrow flight.....and I come to find out that there really isn't a whole lot of difference in POA\POI between the two bolts I'm shooting.....until you get beyond 40 yards....and I'm not shooting that far anyway. Heck....a 40yd shot would be only under "ideal" conditions. So, what I did was ....after seeing there really isn't a significant difference in POA\POI from the two different weight bolts.....plus not a significant velocity difference between the two, I decided to "mess" with the existing scopes elevation adjustments. The more I adjusted a higher POI up for the 30 and 40 yard ranges, the "less" of a significant impact on the POI at 20 yards. In other words, if I adjusted the 30 yard crosshair to hit 4" higher.....then when I went back and shot a bolt at 20yds using the 20yd crosshair....the elevation increase was maybe 1" at the most. That's still MOD (Minuet Of Deer). So, for now no new scope.....and no new crossbow. I'll attempt to whack 'em and stack 'em with what I got. And if a monster buck is standing broadside at 40yds....I just gotta remember to use the 50yd crosshair. But the 20/30yd crosshairs are spot on!

HEY RIDGE>>>>>.......If your link fellow sells that Hawk scope for $150....I may be interested. (I sold a rifle and scope so I have a small pile of "fun money")
I've seen this scope get good reviews, but the prices elsewhere have been $200. Was that just your guess at the price??

I think Hawkes are MAP pricing so they will all be advertised at about the same price. This is why it says on his website call for price. He may be able to offer it lower. Many factory crossbow scopes are made by Hawke and he often takes them off to put higher end scopes on customers bows. He could have some factory takeoffs that are basically the same scope but branded with a crossbow manufacturer's name at a lower price. The guy is very responsive and will steer you right.

He first sent me the price on the HAWKE 2-8 36SR which was $240 and I did not want to spend that much for a scope for a 10YO crossbow. Then I realized I ask about the wrong scope.
I emailed him back about the HAWKE XB 1.5-5x32 ....$145. Deal. It's on it's way tomorrow.

The guy is the best in the crossbow business for any crossbow need. Wait till you look through the new scope compared to the old Horton. The glass will be way better.

He stated the glass was far better than the old Horton scope. New Tactacam pics show some nice size/rack bucks where I hunt. Also way to many coyotes on almost a regular basis. I’m looking forward to getting out more.

Got the scope yesterday.....mounted and sighted it in today.....WOW!! After many shots....and having to think how this speed ring gizmo works (I know...it's just a SPF...or FFP?..I get 'em mixed up) my crossbow is NOW spot on at 10, 20, 30, 40 yards! The last shot I took was 50 yards....and the POI was about 3" left. That could have been the wind pushing that 435gr bolt with it's launch speed being only 275fps.
The "speed ring", at least for the low end of 250fps appears to be pretty accurate. My CB launched 'em at 275fps and that's just about where the ring is set.
The optics are clear and the reticle is crisp. The lighted reticle (I tested in the garage with lights off) appears to be nice as well.....should help with those early or late shots.
My only "complaint" thus far is there is no way to lock the speed ring in place once I found the proper setting. You know....early am's can make a "bump" on the speed ring not all that uncommon. But, knowing it could get bumped will just lead me to double check that it hasn't moved.
I think for the $150 spent, it's a good deal to "upgrade" my ten year old Horton. And I doubt the whitetail will complain if he's killed by an old Horton, or a newbie 5,000fps bolt flinger.

Take some nail polish or something and place reference marks on the ring and scope tube. Glad it worked out for you. It is a nice scope for the money.

I put on some RED Sally Hanson Hard as Nails.....but really....I dunno how applying that to my ten fingers will actually help the speed ring stay in place?
Mebby Ferloo knows the answer?
