My lease has next to no water on it, especially in a dry summer. My brother and I knew of a perennial wet area, and thought we would improve it by digging out a water hole. The damp area was only maybe 5x5. This summer, it was merely damp, so, dug it out. It wasn't long until we hit solid clay. I dug it maybe 15" deep and 3x3. We looked at it today and found it heavily used and a solid trail leading to it.

On a property I use to hunt I set up my tree stand within bow shot of a hillside spring. Deer always came for a drink. An unlucky buck (unlucky for him) came in one time.....

I just dug out an existing spring fed water hole on my property for my ducks. Much to my surprise I found an old porcelain bath tub buried in muck. I guess this property was a pasture at one time and the farmer sank it in there for the cattle. I dug it all the way out and expanded the edges. I also built a damn on the low end. It's filling as I type this. It's presently 2" form over flowing. Can't wait to see if my damn works.

Nice score for you guys. Especially if that's one of the only sources for water the animals in a dry area. Puts you in the mind of the water holes in Africa.

A warm day during the rut those isolated water holes can be the ticket. Cruising bucks will hit them for water.

A warm day during the rut those isolated water holes can be the ticket. Cruising bucks will hit them for water. Well, it's right beside a small clover plot. We put a camera up to see if they head towards the water. Of course, the trail tells us they are
