If any members are into wild mushrooms, have you found any sheepshead yet? I'm still finding a few black trumpets and lots of Chicken of the woods and chanterelles but my sheepshead spots have produced nothing yet. We have had lots of rain this summer. I usually start finding them by now.

I've never been able to discern mushroom differences. I figure if I pick one that I think would be a good one.....the wife would end up a widow. Not that she hasn't thought about that from time to time anyway.....but....you know.....

There are some I don't mess with. Those that I go after are very hard to misidentify-I wouldn't say impossible, but close.

I'm a mushroom man myself. Haven't come across any sheepheads yet but it won't be long till they start popping. There are numerous shrooms that are safe to eat. Morels, Chanterelles, Black trumpets, shaggy maines, pinkies, Honey, oyster, pheasant backs the list is long. I always recommend getting a good mushroom book if your going to eat. If you have any doubt on variety of mushroom don't eat it.

And Sulphur shelf(chicken of the woods)are only picked when very young. Lions mane and some of the tooth mushrooms are my favorites. I wish they were more common.

Was on a hike Thursday and spotted my first Chanterelles and black trumpets and a huge Jack O Lantern but no hen as of yet.

Found the first sheepshead of the year Monday while walking home from my morning hunt. Delicious 😋 Checked my other favorite spots with no luck yet.
