Well, I'm taking the plunge again into the world of cell trail cams. Tried one last year, didn't work out. Sooooo.....based on the recommendation of a good person on here, I'm trying out the Tactacam Reveal X. Says it will be delivered today, so, we shall see.

The two I have are Tactacam Reveal's. I dunno if they are the "X" model or not. I like mine a lot. Eight double A batteries lasted me all season and into February....cold and all up in Ligonier. My Avatar is a pic taken with the Tactacam. I had that one mounted about 10-12 feet off the ground pointing down. Didn't seem to spook off any whitetails.
I have a 15YO trail cam (name escapes me at this time) that I'm thinking of getting the new Spy Point gizmo that lets you turn any brand of any old trail cam into one that will send you the pics.

With all due respect to the previous participants there are a number of things I would solicit Daves advice on ie tying flies, reloading, checkering gun stocks, which golf cart to buy, but anything to do with photography? ?? What were you thinking man? banghead

Well, I'm impressed with this camera. For the money, hard not to be. Straight from the app I can share pics with others. The pics seem very clear. Did get a number of false triggers the other day, I think my resident rabbit was triggering it, but just out of the pic. It was also very windy that day. Here is the black puma I got the other night. And a daylight bunny

Looks like the same black puma Iāve had around here. Itās a feral and has survived about 18+ months not getting eaten by coyotes.
I had a rabbit last winterā¦nicknamed him ākillerā as he survived coyote, cat, and foxā¦.until snot February. I got the pic of the fox munching on it.

My first deer pic sent to my phone. This is pretty cool. BTW, that is a plot that's dead from Roundup, I guess they just wanted their pics taken. Also, kinda rare to get twins up here.

Overall, and I've never owned a cell camera, I'm impressed. Settings on the camera can be changed from the App. Pictures can be shared via text, email, and other ways, from the app. The thumbnail pics are quite clear as well. I get a notification within one minute of the pic being snapped. This is really pretty cool. Oh, 500 pics per month is $8, or unlimited for $13. You can go month to month, or pay for a full year upfront and get a discount. Additional cameras you get a small discount on the monthly plans. The newer Reveals can use either ATT or Verizon towers. This one is just Verizon.

As a side noteā¦.if your cameras are not out in the woods, you can use them as a sort of security camera. My 2 cameras will be set up when we leave for a few days. I figure if I get a pic, at least Iāll have a chance to get the cops over to my home.

I have a Moultrie camera that's gotta be 15 years old....and it still going strong.....except that I have to tear it apart, take a hair dryer to the LED screen for it to "stick" back together so I can read it. But it still works fine.
I was seriously looking at those Spypoint cell links that for roughly $50 will hook up to an old camera and send the pics like the Tactacam's do. And with the Spypoint, they tell you if you buy it, it's 100 free pics per month.....which is more than I'll need.
But...then I got to thinking....even though that old Moultrie is still kicking, for spending $50 for the link.....I'm sorta half way there at buying a new camera that has new technology and bla....bla....bla.
Any thoughts on this?
