He is still going strong at age 14. The only difference is that while he used to point with his tail straight up, he now has a straight back tail.

He has also published a book. I tell folks that Mugs told me what to write and I did the keyboard thing for him. His paws don't work well on a keyboard.

Just saw this for some reason. Must have gotten buried in all the message board threads that have been coming in here recently.
That's really cool that you published a book on Mugs. Refresh my memory. Was Mugs the guy you inherited after a friend passed ?

I had to rethink that previous post, fleroo. I actually inherited a couple of setters, Billy and Meg when a good friend Tom Webster died. That was about twenty years ago, and they both left us early in this century. We got Mugs when a guy that I had known, a former game warden, died in 2014. I guess friend might have been a stretch but I did know Frank in that capacity and we got along well. Mugs, along with two of the three other dogs he had, went to the animal shelter at which my wife volunteers. One was old and had lots of health issues and had to be put down. One got adopted by a neighbor. The two at the shelter one Sunday my wife was there were Mugs and a Gordon setter. Ms Doris heard one of the shelter employees talking about setters, and she asked to see them. We have had setters since 1965, and at the time we were between dogs. She called and asked if I would like to see this one and I went there immediately. The folks at the shelter asked if I wanted to take Mugs out for a run in their chain link enclosure. I did so, and he acted like he wanted to please. He bonded with me on the spot. We decided to adopt him and took him home that day. He is 14 now, and lies next to my desk as I type this. I have said that the only truly unconditional love a guy is likely to get will probably come from a dog. Mugs exemplifies this.

I am 100% on board with that statement.
