Anyone looking for a great oyster shucking knife?? Well over a number of shucking years I've extensively used several including Dexter's New Haven(bent tip), Boston style, OXO etc. Have come to conclusion that the good ole R Murphy New Haven bent tip(below) style to work the best!! Of course if the R Murphy isn't available will not walk away from a pile of Chincoteague Salts!! lol

Are the flounder regs are screwed up there as well? Nope……..not in VA. In fact……. Size is 16” this season vs 16.5 and same 4 per day limit.

One flounder per person? Seems fishing for targeting flounder is a waste of time and effort. But I suppose that's the point if the flounder is getting scarce.

One flounder per person? . Yes sir. The locals and charters down there are not too happy. Other states have more liberal limits. One told me flounder is a filet and release fish these days, lol.

Fished both NC & SC many years for flounder and fishing was never nearly as good as VA and MD. A lil cooler water coupled with the massive adjoining Chesapeake Bay plus supporting tributaries provides a rich habitat sustaining the flounder fishery.

My 79 year young fishing buddy will be joining me in about a week! He‘s mostly into crabbing. Got my freezer loaded up with bunker and chicken all ready for our traps.

Them mantis shrimps can break your finger. Nasty little buggers.
I'm jealous. My goal is to retire and move down to around Morehead City or Jacksonville NC, get a 20 foot center console and enjoy the salt air before I am too old to enjoy it.

I retired 8 years ago & bought my VA place then. Best investment I ever made!! Areas I fish are loaded with many oyster beds which play havoc on fiberglass hulls...rips them up grinding gel coats off.. My alum Lund is built like a tank plus only drafts about 1.5'. My lil 25 hp Suzuki has a powertilt which is great when navagating the many shallows where I fish/crab.

They are pretty reasonable as well at about $28,000.

That would be a good rig!! I previously had a 23' Trophy Bayliner CC w/150 Merc Had a 100 gal fuel tank(ouch!). My Lund 16' SSV(Semi-V) powered with 25 hp Suzuki does all I need to do & then come. Can run 2 full days on 6 gal fuel tank. I like the sem--V when encountering some open water chop. The Lund SSV is the choice of many Canadian guides due to ther durability and ability to hand adverse big lake conditions. Many inshore boaters in VA backwaters run Lunds. I got mine(boat, motor & trailer)for under $8 grand back in 2009 with a 25 hp Johnson..... since repowered with 25 Zuke 2 years ago. Had the larger CC platform with the 23' Trophy Bayliner having all the bells/whistles which come with their share of problems. Glad I went back to basic no frills type boat. The Lund 16' SSV has been an unbelievable boat!

Looks like VA is going to be our next family vacation. We booked for next summer to go to Buggs Island/Kerr Lake. Found an AirBNB that was pretty reasonable for the week. World record blue cat came from that lake.

World record blue cat came from that lake. Man, you got the catfishing bug for sure. A little. LOL. Nice thing is the place we got is right on the lake. The place has kayaks and a canoe along with a dock. I will take the boat, but the kids and their friends can also go kayaking/canoeing. There is a sandy beach that is a short walk from the cabin. It is nice now that the kids are old enough that they can do their own things if they want. We did this same thing this summer at Sandusky. Only downside was the place we stayed you could see the lake but had no shore access. It would have been perfect if it did. We waited to long to book it this past year.

Not the same Lowes. Lowe Boats I believe is an affiliate of the Brunswick conglomerate.
