I don't know the size of the largest bear ever killed in Pennsylvania, but here's a picture of the largest bear killed in the year 2021. It was harvested on December 4, 2021 in Letterkenny Army Depot of all places. It had a field dressed weight of 612 pounds and an estimated live weight of 722 pounds.
Here's a picture of them using a skid steer to load the brute.

I know B&C doesn't give a hoot what I think. But, I think a bears "size", and B&C rank, should go by weight, not the size of the noodle. Nooooo, not that noodle. The noggin. I mean, when you drive down the road and see a bruin, does anybody ever yell, "WOW ! Would you look at the size of that noggin ?" NO ! And I know that differs from antlered and horned species, but those are obvious adornments that can easily be admired. Quite unlike a bears noggin ?
Some years back, an FC (Fayette-Conger) kilt a bruin that was well into the 700 lb. mark. I want to say the noggin ranked 3 in the state at the time ? There were folks on another site, claiming they knew as a fact, that PA had Blackies roaming around that eclipsed 1,000 lb. I believe there was an article written, where the writer claimed the same ? That all said, at the time, I don't believe there was a blackie that eclipsed 900 lb., IN THE WORLD. And like 1 or 2 that eclipsed 800 ? Couldn't convince the masses as to otherwise.

You can't use rifles in that place so it had to be kilt with either a shotgun/slug; inline muzzleloader or flintlock.

They designate the days for firearms and archery seasons. That particular day was not a designated archery day.

Thanks Dan. Did some google searching re hunt report, story etc with details of the "Largest 2021 PA Bear Kill" and found nothing other than location, kill date & weight of bear.....surprising nothing out there found after over one month since kill? Usually a local newspaper etc picks-up on something like this.

Other than the hunter's name, there was no additional information posted by the Depot. Who knows, the hunter may write a story for Game News in the future.

If the below listed bruin had just been a fatty, he wouldn't amounted to squat. Maybe there should be two categories; skull size and weight. But yeah, I do look for skull size as a age factor. On July 1, 1975, the world’s record black bear skull was found along the edge of the Manti-La Sal National Forest, about seven miles east of Ephraim, Utah. Merrill Daniels and Alma Lund discovered the record skull. Daniels and Lund were unable to determine why the bear died, but they recognized that the animal's carcass, which was slowly decaying in the summer heat, was immense. Using the Boone and Crockett Club’s skull measuring system this animal received an entry score of 23-10/16. However, because the score exceeded the previous record by more than an inch, Daniels and Lund's incredible find was greeted with skepticism. To quell speculation, Daniels and Lund shipped the skull to the Boone and Crockett Club’s Washington, D.C. office, where it was examined by experts at the Smithsonian Institution. After undergoing careful comparisons with type specimens, as well as other identification criteria, Daniels' and Lund's find was declared to be a bona fide black bear skull. In 1980. These two bruisers in my drive had large skulls that made them look like they had no ears:Attachments:

I remember talking to Gary Alt and he claimed to have knowledge of a bear in the 900 lb range that hung out in Hemlock Farms in Pike County... I'm a firm believer that the 1000 lb mark will be broken some day... Don't be surprised if it comes from New Jersey... Our wonderful governor this year put a stop to our bear hunt... He unfortunately was just re-elected so that means another 4 years of no bear hunts... I've got bears on camera every year that are 700 lbs plus...
