Between the heat in Oct and spotty mast crop, this was the slowest season I've ever had.I had 12 doe come past me on the first morning that I elected to pass on.I didn't see another deer from a stand until the last weened of Oct.I hunted some old haunts the last two weeks, seeing some deer every hunt and managing to kill a couple of doe.Sat morning the son and I hunted a spot I've neglected for the past 10 years because it was just too far to drag a young kid back to.We went in blind sat morning,,Jordan with a climber and me with a saddle and single stick. No doe were seen but I managed to pass two small bucks,a smaller 6 point and a decent 8 point before killing a slightly bigger 8 point.Jordan had a good year, killing three doe and a 6 point with his bow along with a two more doe that he rifles in his last youth season.

Doug, your rough season would be a career year for just about anyone else lol. I'm sure the time spent with your son was worth it regardless of how many deer you both got.

There's no shortage of deer Bake but they certainly weren't moving past my stand sites on a regular basis.I hunted more this past season than I have in a long time and I saw a grand total of 26 deer with 12 being seen on the first day.

Yeah......sounds like a "tough season" based upon the extraordinary amount of time & effort you spent hunting with minimal deer sightings. Time to get back to the ole drawing board and plan some fresher strategies for next year. Like they always easily say..."hunt deeper & hunt smarter"!! As we know...it ain't always that easy!!

It was a slow season for me.My son did much better.I had like 8 or 9 sits in a row without seeing a single deer.I don't usually see dozens of deer in archery season but I usually have a deer or two within range more than 50% of the time.

Well, it's over for the so called "rut". I think it's a little late in our area. Most of the nice bucks we saw while traveling to and from our property were out in the middle of fields with no does around. Now don't get me wrong, we did see a few that were starting to chase the does. Unfortunately none of the larger bucks we have pictures of showed up when we were in the woods...always earlier or later in the evening. I saw deer every day I was out and a buck every day as well but they were only junk bucks or tiny racks.
So, I put the crossbow away for the year and I honestly don't know if I'm taking a rifle out. I don't know where these bucks are spending their day. To increase my odds of success this year, I just ordered a Wiley Products Grenade Launcher. It's made by ACME. I don't need to know exactly where this guy is spending his day...I just need to get close!
