Eagles certainly have become commonplace over the years. We had a pair of mature baldies just hanging around the meadow most of the day yesterday. We often see them flying but only lately we see them perch and presumably hunt.

Great pictures there BB.
A week ago Friday, we had some mulch placed in our backyard. As I sat on the patio watching them, I noticed two large birds in the distance circling, riding the thermals with the bright sun lighting them up. I thought I saw white on both ends so retrieved my binoculars. Sure enough, they were eagles. They got closer and closer and were soon directly over head just riding the thermals higher. I asked the fellows mulching if they ever saw eagles over Chambersburg and we just stood there watching them in all their glory.

There is an eagle nest about a half mile below our camp on Pine Creek in Tioga County. We see eagles frequently. It never gets old

Welp....today I had a Buzzard sailing above my house.Wave your arms now and then when you're outside, so they know ya ain't daid yet. We've had eagles around the area camp is in, for years. I blame then for the scarcity of woodchucks. But I enjoy seeing them when up there.

Nice pic's Bowbum.
I had a eagle on my pond last week. Figured he caught a fish for diner, but when he flew away I did not see one in its talons.
Also had buzzards circling and landing in woods behind the pond a few days ago. Figured there must be a dead deer (or other critter) out there. Took a stroll out there and found a dead doe. Had been there a while, pretty picked clean so no way to tell cause of death.

I don't blame 'yotes for the scarcity of woodchucks over the past several years. We had more 'yotes around the areas we used to shoot lots of chucks in, during the "glory years", than there are now. While I still hear 'yotes howking now and then while at camp, I haven't actually seen one in years. Used to see a few every year, back in the good old days of shooting a coupla hundred 'chucks each year. Good fields that once had plenty of 'chucks, are devoid of them. Haven't shot a 'chuck at camp in the past five years. Some fields that once gave up a half dozen dead rodents over an hour's wait, zero holes compared to years ago. Easy to see once the hay is off, no longer any holes to be seen in them. Most of the woodchucka I still see up there are in someone's yard. The demise of woodchucks began as the eagle and bobcat populations were on the increase. And now, we have fishers. Cousin's son sees fishers more frequently now on his trail cams and we had one in the cabin yard this summer.

They, along with all the other avian predators, can put a hurt to chuck pups
