This coming fall looks better than the last 2 years in 3B areas I hunt based on local's reports, sightings etc. PGC recently concluded a Turkey Survey (Wild Turkey Sighting Survey, July 1 - Aug. 31, 2021) which I look forward to reading. Please post-up if you see release before I do.
How's things look in your area??

I'm not all that confident of a fall bird. The coyotes, raccoon's, and possums seem to be having their way with the nest. At least where I'm hunting.

One plus I’m seeing is a heavy acorn crop exceeding last few years. It should help keep the flocks in the woods vs fields.

Are you noticing a better acorn mast this year in Bradford vs last? I haven't cked the some of the beech ridges around my camp. Some of my best fall turkey hunt seasons have also coincided with a heavy beechnut mast in addition to acorns.

With all the birds I've seen on my trips through 4A and 5A, I think it's going to a great Fall as far as turkeys go. I think we had a great hatch with dry weather to start and then plentiful food with cicadas in some areas and hoppers in others. And now as you've mentioned, acorns seem plentiful.

Brush hog job I did today, the trees/ground around there were loaded with acorns.

Monday a week ago my buddy and I saw a mixed flock of eleven birds. Try as we might, we couldn't flank them to break them up before they entered a thicket. This past Saturday we had three nice gobblers coming in to two of us but were spooked when two doe came busting off the ridge. With all the birds we've seen in the past two months, these were the only encounters this Fall.

Least you had a little action there Dan. I plan to work some acorn ridges in Sullivan County Friday & Saturday. While muzzleloading there in October found several areas of scratchings on 2 of the ridges.

The guys I took up to the property Saturday were hunting turkeys while I was bow hunting. They didn't even see fresh sign of the birds. But, what do you think I heard first thing Tuesday with my son? That's right....turkeys on the neighboring property. About 10:00 four gobblers walked between my son and I. We took about a 45 minute lunch break and when I returned to the place I was setting, there were scratchings all around. I thought I heard one behind me down in the sawmill hollow so I just whistled a key-key call. Two hens cut me off down in the hollow as if to holler "We're down here in the hollow." I tell ya, that's the way it's been for the last couple of years. Go turkey hunting and have rack bucks cruising in range or go deer hunting and sure enough, the turkeys will find you.

You know what that means, right ? When you were gone, they were probably scratching all around where you were setting.

Friday had heavy rain until about noon. Saturday lite rain in morning. Wet weather system just couldn't totally leave. Covered several miles both days and couldn't locate any. Saw a small flock Saturday while driving on way back to where I hunt...of course on private land. Even with not the best weather conditions enjoyed time outdoors. Bring on Bear Season!!

I have been off 10 days for my rutcation and in the woods just about every day and I have yet to see or hear a fall turkey. WMU 2A. Tells ya something, right ? I believe they increased the fall season here in 2A this year ? I'm not even a Turkey guy, but like to see them here. It's clear as day that they are in steep decline, here at least. I know all about... "It's about the hens" thingy. But it is nothing but GREED, to keep doling out a 2nd Gobbler tag when this is going on. Both the PGC (money-wise), and hunters are culpable. Nobody should have to pull a trigger, or loose an arrow or bolt on a 2nd Gobbler in order for their season to be fulfilled. Let the damn birds recover. And either cut out, or cut down, the fall season. Make it a 3 day season until this passes..... if it does.

I forgot to mention that I also saw another flock of 40 plus on the way into camp Thurs late afternoon. It was also on private land just before Loyalsock State Forest about 2 miles on other side of Deer Lake area. Fall turkey sightings can be tough as they are mostly flocked-up and if you're hunting on the wrong mountain or area you may not see a turkey for weeks. My sightings was over 60 turkey in 3 days....all in flocks. These we both along dirt roads. As far a turkey hunters in the wood....I saw zero. All hunters I came across were archery hunting for deer.

We have some turkeys, not quite like last year. No cherry crop, so, few turkeys. The lack of cherry has also changed to deer movement

I told ya so!!! Can't find a bird in turkey season but just wait till deer season. Yesterday my son had about 40 birds to the right of his blind all morning. He said they didn't even startle when his father-in-law shot a 6 point about 200 yards away. Today, my friend watched three of the biggest Fall gobblers he's ever seen above him on the ridge foraging on acorns and grapes. Maybe they should bring in a concurrent deer, bear and turkey season. But why stop there? Maybe the season should include everything that you need a license to hunt. I'm telling ya, ya just can't win.

I saw 6 gobblers yesterday, then cut the tracks of 13 turkeys in one group. Some seed for the spring
