Maybe Ridge knows when the newbie next year models are gonna get announced? I may wait until then and mebby pick up a deal on the "last year" crossbow....depending upon the cost difference. But I think it may be time to buy a new one that has better\faster speed....and accordingly, will kill a whitetail "more better." All of the 2022 models are out. With that said, not many new models this year cause of supply issues. Tenpoint and Wicked Ridge are basically the only manufacturer with new stuff. I do not like mechanical cranks either. I prefer to hand cock my crossbows but finding those is becoming harder as the manufacturers keep moving towards narrower and narrower with excessively high draw weights. While I do own and shoot some of the high end speed bows, I prefer the slower bows that shoot around 380-400 and can still be hand cocked. Wicked Ridge has that covered. If I were buying a bow right now it would be the 2021 Wicked Ridge Raider 400 with the Acudraw50 rope cocker, the Wicked Ridge M370 rope cocker, or the TenPoint Titan M1. The 2022 WR Raider has a crank. This dealer is top notch and throws in some goodies. These crossbows can be easily cocked by hand, $600-800, have good serving life cause they are not super narrow and have great customer service. The TenPoint Titan M1 has some better components and tighter tolerances but is still reasonable at $800 for the hand draw model. www.wyverncreations.com/wicked-ridge-crossbows-c-100/wicked-ridge-invader-400-p-1103.html?zenid=gol7n86e3lpl74nk7gvshq6tn1www.wyverncreations.com/wicked-ridge-crossbows-c-100/wicked-ridge-m370-p-1102.html?zenid=gol7n86e3lpl74nk7gvshq6tn1www.wyverncreations.com/tenpoint-crossbows-c-77/titan-m1-p-921.html?zenid=gol7n86e3lpl74nk7gvshq6tn1

I think the M 370 will be my next crossbow.

There is a ten point dealer not far from me. I've had these guys do maintenance on my compound bow and they are very knowledgable. Gonna call 'em this week to see if they have one in stock. But if I get a new one....what do I do with my Horton? Ridge might buy it....for sale well used crossbow......$500!

If you can, shoot both the 10 point and the Wicket Ridge, I could see no difference, except for the scope. I traded the one that came with the WR for one like on the 10 Point, for a few extra bucks.

Yeah….I saw they offer a scope upgrade. What’s the difference??

When talking crossbow scopes, I always advise getting one with a speed dial. If you ever change broadheads or arrows, being able to adjust the holdover points is a must if you want your impact points to remain 20, 30, 40, 50 etc.....

Yeah….I saw they offer a scope upgrade. What’s the difference?? Don’t remember, but I remember looking through both and new quickly which one I wanted. I think the upgrade was a lot clearer., even though the original wasn’t all that bad. I’m picky when it comes to scopes and triggers.

I think I’m going to opt for the WR 400. I called a local shop that has always given me excellent service & is a Ten Point dealer. He told me they don’t have their shipment in yet & to check back with them. He told me I have lots of time for this coming season.

The newer 410s are supposed to go out early April. The 410s are crank only though, which you said you were not a fan of.

I'll try the crank at the shop when he get's 'em and see if\how I like it. If it doesn't make my life easier, I won't buy it.

That de-cock looks sweet, and I like the silent crank.

Ok....so I'm back to the should I get a new crossbow....or not. I waffle on this subject of a new crossbow. I know if it were a firearm I'd have bought it already. To me, firearms increase in value and crossbows in general sink like a tank in value.
The other "issue" that now seems to be of concern to me is that CWD has now fully engulfed the property that I hunt. To some, CWD may not mean a thing.....but to me it certainly does. Now, I know I can get the deer tested and that should be a relief if the testing is negative. But my next concern is what if my processor is slicing and grinding deer that are infected with CWD? I know they are not cleaning after every deer.
So, that puts me in a position of doing it myself. And that's all well and good as ten years ago I could physically do this.....not as fast as a healthy person could....but I could do this. I would venture to say that if I did this today, it would be a process that would take me 3 days at a minimum to do.
I like deer meat......but I dunno if I like it THAT much. So...therein lies my dilemma. I don't want to spend $700-$800 on a crossbow that I may decide not to use.
Now, I did a "new" search to try and find out stat's of my Horton 175 crossbow. So...here's what I found on a forum called crossbow nation. (Yeah....a WHOLE darn nation of crossbows! Who knew?)
The guy who posted is an archery dealer and these numbers came from a 2018 post when he was still selling Hortons.
The "factory" Axle to Axle unloaded is 16.125". Mine measures 16.5". Ok...that's a difference of .375" The "factory" Axle to Axle loaded is 9.875". Mine measures 10.375". Ok...that's a difference of .50"
I can understand the differences of mine vs factory being different when loaded and unloaded because of angles 'n stuff. But would one-half inch "loaded" difference make a significant difference in arrow speed?
Maybe all I need to do is give the string a few "twist" to bring the AtoA a bit closer?

Some twists will certainly increase you speed. It is hard to say for certain how much because of cam design and such. As I said before, a bow that has the same set of strings and cables on it for a long time will stretch out and slow down and if the new set you put on was out of spec, the same slow down will occur.

I’ll give it a “twist” and see what that does.
Film at 11:00.

I twisted it and got the unloaded down to 16.250. And guess what?......The bolts now all hit at the scope crosshair ranges! 10yds, 20yds, 30yds, & 40yds. I even tried 50 yards.....but that got a little wonky. I hit the deer target in the front leg.....not exactly a kill spot.
But the rest were right in the boiler room. Should I hunt, it's another year for the Horton!!
