Welp, after my lack of success with the cell cam , I decided to go ahead and order a Browning Strike Force Pro XD, from Trailcampro.com
It's outside now, checking out whatever comes to the bird seed I have on the ground.

Well.....here's a wildlife pic set in the glorious place where nary a human has set foot!! This creature will survive a long life amongst the wildly and insane animal protection crowd that enjoys such a vast, expansive wilderness where this deer roams!!

When you have a fuzzy pic, the deer suddenly goes from a 4 point to a 12 point with a 22" spread.....yeah.....it happens.

There seems to be a good gene pool in the area I hunt. The buck I was “after” last year was a bigger 9 point whose rack rivaled the 10 pt I have head mounted. When I killed the big 7 pt (on the left in the pic) I mistook him for the 9. With a limited “window “ to shoot....this can happen. No complaints....just wish I took a tiny bit more time before I pulled the trigger.

What kind of body weight do they have in your area?

What kind of body weight do they have in your area? That’s a moving target for me. I get about 60-lbs of meat from the most recent bucks I’ve been fortunate enough to take. If you do the math, that converts to live weights of 150-180 lbs. how accurate that is I really don’t know.

Ours have big racks and smaller body. A 135 lb buck is not the norm This one yield 35 lbs of meat after it was bones out including the neck meat. Attachment Deleted

I have been using a PGC tape measure and chart the last few year to estimate weight of deer, and have found it very accurate when crossed reverenced with an actual scale. www.pgc.pa.gov/Wildlife/WildlifeSpecies/White-tailedDeer/Pages/DeerWeightChart.aspxAttachment DeletedThis is the buck/ antler less deer I shot last year. 176 lb ,5 1/2 year old, the base of this antler measures 5 1/4 inches in circumference. Big woods deer. And like Dave ,if I had look a little closer this deer might still be living an another one would have been on the pole, long story. Also this is not the deer I was after last year, as far as I know he's still there, maybe this year. we will meet.🤔😋 Attachment DeletedThese two buck were taken almost 20 years ago. My son's, on the left went 146 lb and the one on the right mine, was 182 lb using the chart. I will give the PGC credit, antler restriction along with population reduction has increased both deer antler size and weight. These 3 deer were taken in the heart of Sproul SF, but before you get all excited and decide to hunt there, let me warn you about the down side. I have hunted, along with others at camp, this area from can to can't see the complete first week rifle deer season, and we never saw a deer. We also hunt it hard in Bear with a crew, and most years see a total of less than half a dozen deer while doing so.

Very nice pic's gents!
A friend of mine has a camp in Mckeen county. I have hunted there and in two days never seen a deer....none in the 4 or 5 party had days like that.
One year, when I could walk without a cane, I was doing a slow stalk and jumped a very nice 8 point. I had seconds to take a shot, which I did and it was a clean miss. But the buck ran straight over to another guy in our party and he got it.
The camp owner shot a beautiful 12 point one year.
The deer are there.....but he's adjacent to thousands of timber company acres that is leased out to a group of guys.....not enough to get the deer moving around.
FWIW

That's part of the problem Dave, low deer numbers = low hunter numbers, so the deer don't move. Throw in some posted adjacent land, and it becomes very hard hunting. I love hunting the big woods though because of the freedom, and the reward when, or if, it happens.
