Love them or hate them, Ravin continues to turn the crossbow world upside down.

Well, for as expensive as they are, they should gut and drag my deer out!
Honestly, I don't need excessive speed, I need a narrower crossbow, with a reasonable price.
And my next question, being the tightwad that I am, in 5 years, how much will a $3,000 crossbow be worth?? Not interested in losing tons of money on depreciation

It's getting ridiculous just like I feared it would.

It's getting ridiculous just like I feared it would. Yep. Getting kinda crazy. Not a fan of chasing speed for many reasons. The R18 doesn't chase speed since it is only pushing 330fps but it is certainly is a radical departure resulting in a much more compact design.

Having a hard time finding the cross in those bows. Yep. The R18 is certainly not a "cross"bow but hey, maybe its a vertical bow.

Wonder if there will be a ruling of sorts, as to whether it can be used in PA ? Or other states ?

Wonder if there will be a ruling of sorts, as to whether it can be used in PA ? Or other states ? The R500 with the electric motor would surely not be legal. I don't know enough about the mechanics of the R18 to know for sure. As long as there are no springs, levers, pulleys etc.... to power the limbs, which there does not appear to be, it is probably legal here.

Your telling me there's an electric motor in one of those? What for? Cocking? Is there a manual override to cock? If so, perhaps they'll denote it as a "hybrid."

The R500E has an electric motor for cocking and de-cocking. If the batteries fail, not sure yet if there is a manual override. The R500 is manual cocking.

Has anybody seen the new Excalibur Twinstrike? It is a 2 shot crossbow, with one cockin. Two sets of limbs, 2 strings, and 2 bolts. They are stacked like the barrels on an over under shotgun. Second shot instantly.

From what I can see and understand from the description the cams and arms are mounted vertical instead of horizontal. If I understand it correctly the arms only travel 2.8 inches when fired ,but vertical instead of horizontal.
Ravin R18 $1,549.99 NEW FOR 2021 / AVAILABLE SPRING 2021
Utilizing the new proprietary VertiCoil Cam System, the R18 is the shortest Ravin ever created at just 18 inches in length. The VertiCoil Cam System rotates the ultra-small cams 720 degrees, coiling the strings and cables around the cam and cam axle allowing an axle-to-axle height of just 1.3 inches cocked or 4.1 inches when uncocked, with a static overall width of 4.75”. The R18 is a takedown style crossbow with limbs that expand vertically, shooting 330 feet per second. The R18 includes a detachable stock with an integrated removable quiver system, making the total length roughly 25 inches when fully in-tact. The unique 6-pound crossbow features the new Ravin 3-Dot Reflex Sight for easy target acquisition, and includes the Ravin built-in cocking mechanism, allowing for an easy draw. The R18 comes in black and is available Spring 2021.
330 FPS Weight: 6 LBS Length:18” Without Stock, 25” With Stock Height Axle to Axle Cocked: 1.3” Height Axle to Axle Uncocked: 4.1” Overall Width: 4.75” Power-Stroke: 13” Kinetic Energy: 85 FT LBS Draw Force: 12 LBS VertiCoil Cam System Detachable Stock/Quiver Fully Assembled/Pre-Tuned 3 – 16” .003 350 Grain R18 Arrows with Field Points 1 – Removable Draw Handle Ravin 3 Dot Reflex Sight Built-In Cocking Mechanism Anti-Dry Fire/Auto Safety Built-in Sling Mounts

Several guys at our club have Xbows with parallel limbs, similar to the pics. I know one cost $1,200 a year ago, no idea what the other one cost? One of 'em had an accident with his in October. Tree stand sit, buck passing to his left and had to lean out a bit to shoot. Guess he forgot the limbs pop out? Limb hit tree and shattered. Just got it back after repairs.
Yesterday I had to dismantle about 3/4s of a target butt on the practice range. Some of the older butts are layers of 1/2"x16"x4' Celotex stacked in there and compressed, within a 4x4 wooden frame. Newer butts are 4x4 plastic covered, foam filled "bales" we get from Lancaster Archery Supply. Sitting in the same wooden frames.
Guy comes up to the garage upset that he fired five new, expensive bolts into one of the older butts at 15 yards, can't withdraw any of them. Two butts at 15 yards, the other one is the foam bale. This is not the first time someone shot bolts into the Celotex butts with a more powerful xbow and struggled with pulling them, so I guess it's time to post a sign down there: Please use plastic bales for xbows".
Took the butt apart from top down and had to remove 3/4 of the layers to get all five bolts out. Now I have to put it all back together again. Some of the pieces fell apart, so gotta replace them with new pieces when putting it back together again.
We built the original Celotex filled butts 20 years ago. We now replace the "shot out" center layers in them, with layers of 1/4" foam. They held up very well with compounds over the years. Not so much with more and more xbows showing up now.
