Plenty of ice cubes here in Saint Thomas. Does that help?

While up in Sullivan County for regular Deer Season this week i noticed a number of ponds etc already had a skim on. Nothing locked-up yet but a positive sign of things to come compared to last 2 years!!

When my ice fishing buddy, Skip, became a snow bird a few years ago, I decided to unload all my "valuable" ice fishing equipment on my grandson as a Christmas present. This Christmas presentation received somewhat of an underwhelming reaction, not only by my grandson, but my son who was required to find storage space for the sled, buckets, rods, auger, etc. I'm not sure we ever had safe ice here last year. My snow bird friend isn't heading South this winter. Maybe he'll invite me to share his sled, buckets, rods, auger, etc.

Berks...we had no fishable ice here in York County last season. I actually traveled to my Sullivan County Camp & fished Hunter's & Rose Valley lakes which both were locked-up with decent ice for at least a month or more.
If we get ice this coming season would love to spend a day with you & Skip on the ice!! I have plentya eqt plus im sure Skip does. I fished Ontelaunee years ago and did good on crappies & BG's.

Would love to have ya along Brad! I know Berks here is a hardwater guy too so mebbie we can get a lil gathering if we get ice. Last year i had to go to my Sullivan County camp to find good lock-up's. Rose Valley plus Hunters Lake both had decent ice.

Had to break some ice to get at muskrat traps this morning. I pulled most of them, as I don't want them freezing in.
The weather forecast the next week seems to favor ice formation, thats for sure.

Won't be long looking at the forecast. I would say that many northern tier lakes will be locked-up by next weeekend. Last year I fished Hunters Lake(Sullivan County) plus Rose Valley Lake(Lycoming) both which had safe ice in many areas into late February/early March. Here in York County...no ice. 150 miles north makes a huge difference or sure.

My son has shown an interest in ice fishing this year so I have purchased the gear and am awaiting ice somewhere to give it a try. Have done a little myself over the years for panfish but I am no expert by any means so any advice will be appreciated.

I do 1-2 rods and 3-4 tip-ups. Live bait: Minnows & wax worms. Let the minnows run with some line on the tip-ups and use a brightly colored jighead with a wax worm on your rod(s). The smaller shiny spoons can work too. Get a weight that clips on the end of your line to check depth. If it's going to be a long day, drag some beverages & food out there with you to stay warm.... man I'm getting pumped!

I dont jig much usually just set tip ups and wait but I eat well . LOL take the coleman stove and usually cook breakfast or lunch if we stay that long.

Dale...will let you know when I'm up. Possibly we all can freeze our butts!! ;D
I didnt mailorder any waxies or spikes yet. Any good bait shops in your neck of the woods? Plus last year seems guys with live shiners on RV Lake were doing the best.

We're on a roll forming ice here... now I see temps of 45 and 49 here Saturday / Sunday... gah! Hopefully, that doesn't last long.
Looks like nights remain at or below 30 though...
