There supposedly is a poor spruce/pine cone seed crop in Canada and that is causing a bigger migration than usual of evening grosbeaks and pine siskins to our area. Attachments:

Too many bears on the feed for me to put up a bird feeder yet. I have an above average abundance of spruce/pine cones this year.

We were surprised when a bear got on our porch about a week ago. We always have to guard against them in spring and summer but generally by mid August they quit bothering us. So, in mid October we quit bringing our feeders in and danged if one didn't score two feeders from us and then went down the hill and got into our dumpster!
