That's the question gent's. Where I hunt there is a sow with two cubs hanging out there. A few days ago I spotted fresh bear scat. So....when bear season comes in.......what would you do if presented a shot?

If it's in an area where bears are more of a nuisance than most places I would probably shoot the one that gave me the best shot. I've never really cared to shoot a bear but I usually see a couple in archery season so I will buy a tag this year.

Depends, if I’m by myself I probably let them walk. If I’m hunting with a bunch of guy that are working hard to drive bears, yes, I would shoot the sow and also if I’m hunting with my son, yes. Cause I would never hear the end of it if I didn’t.🤣

I don't know? I'm bear hunting with a rifle for the very first time this season. Hunting on the eastern side of Renovo on Hyner Mountain. Hopefully I'll get to make that choice.

Likely would but my Mrs would be the last one to know as I'd never hear the end of it. In fact...after eating my PA elk she said don't bother to bring any more deer, bear etc home....just go for elk. Told her may be a while as PA is my only interest.

Good area, I’ll be north west of you off route 144 in Noyes township somewhere, hopefully you’ll need to take a trip to the Chapman fire hall to check one in. A lot of bears in the area, though I’ll admit I haven’t seen any signs near camp yet, but I haven’t look real hard either. You may want to get an extension to place on one leg, those mountains are steep, even the coyotes need to dig a hole so they can sit down to howl.😄

Likely a decent sized bear dropped that pile of sh!t unless it was a BIG bullsh!ter!! Can't wait until the October Bear Season!! Have 3 full days scheduled for last 3 days in Sully.

As with shooting any game, the shooter is the only one that should decide if a legal animal is good enough.
I know a couple guys who have little interest in shooting any game except with a flintlock. I have no interest in shooting any bear with a rifle but I kind like the idea of getting one with a bow. It's the same with bucks, I only like hunting them with a bow, but will shoot one with a rifle for the freezer if I still have my tag.
The PGC set the rules for all hunters. From there the hunter sets the rules for himself.

I'm set on shooting a large rack buck. Yes.....call me a horn hunter....I don't care. But if it ain't big.....it ain't gettin shot at by me. OTOH, if I still have my buck tag when flint comes in.....I will likely be in an "anything goes" mood.

Plenty of sows with cubs get shot every year and I have no issue with that. With that said,I wouldn't do it if she had 1st year cubs with her.

I wouldn't call ya no horn hunter, Dave. I do that same thing in archery season. I won't shoot a small buck because I want to keep archery hunting. I wait all year for the season to come around and like to spend as much time hunting as I can. several years ago I shot a decent buck on the first evening of the season and a couple years later on the second evening of the season. I learned patience from those shots. There have been seasons when I passed decent bucks only to shoot a smaller on during the last week or in rifle season. Just the chance we take for passing on shots. Last year I passed several bucks to finally get a 20+ yard shot a a beauty on the second to last day of archery. The arrow sailed over his back even though I had guessed the yardage correctly. I simply blew the shot. It was almost the same story the year before, but those were two of the very best seasons I've had in my life. -Man. if I don't get the drs okay to draw a bow soon I'm going to go of the deep end. All this hunting talk is making me sick for my climber.
