My wife and I were looking for mushrooms in the ANF behind our camp Saturday afternoon and met a young man carrying a .22. We had a nice chat with the guy who I would guess was in his early twenties. He said he hadn't fired a shot but was glad that the weather was a little cooler and that squirrel hunting was just below archery hunting on his favorite types of hunting.
That was only the second time in many years I've met a hunter who was after anything other than deer of turkeys and it was good to see. The leaves still heavy on the trees make squirrel hunting tough, Do any members of the site spend anytime going out after squirrels?

Was out last evening with my son and two grandsons. I sat with the oldest one and my son sat with the youngest, no shots fired. My son and grand son saw a doe and fawn. Myself and JT saw one doe, two porcupines and one squirrel. The squirrel was high in the leaf filled oak, and a little too far for the shotgun. Good time was had by all.
