Miss Annie enjoys these Summer Games in preparation for the Sept 1st Goose opener. Here we're practicing the long "blind" retrieve (she doesn't know where the bumper is hiding). Course she knows this game and in the short grass it's a simple just look for it without using her nose. Still a blast for her!

Several years ago I was at a "hunter's dinner" with all sorts of attractions: Artists, call makers, seminars and so on. An outfit from up near State College was there with their dogs, mostly labs.
We went outside and they put a demonstration on. Couple young dogs, retrieved on things they could see and did pretty well. An older yeller girl was laying some distance away, watching the younger dogs do their thing. Eventually they called the older dog over, fired two retrieval dummies off, both of which went down over a knoll, out of sight.
Trainer gave her the cue to go and off she went. Down over the hill, came back with both dummies and in the order in which they'd been launched. Buddy's wife went over and talked to the breeder/trainers about a pup. Came back as white as a sheet, told her hubby that their dogs start at around $2k for a trained one.
Guy at our club had a yellow male he paid more than that for, think it came from somewheres down south? He passed away a few years ago and the dog missed two years of hunting. Last year one of his sons took his 12 year old out for water fowl, took along his dad's dog. Dark when they got to their property. Kid let the dog out and off he went.
Went they got to the blind by the pond, dog was already laying on his perch in the blind. Never missed a beat, once they started shooting. When the dog's owner was still alive, he'd pull into the parking lot at our club, let the dog out for a swim in our pond. Used to crack me up. Dog would take a few laps around the pond, shake off and run back up to the truck. Sometimes they weren't there for twenty minutes. Larry said the dog just wanted some water time.
