I lived in Delaware for a few years after college. I would often drive down to Bowers beach, walk onto the "Anita M" pay the mate 20 bucks, and go out for a half day of fishing for blues. That was back in the mud 80s and I'm pretty sure that stripers were off limits at the time.
I have checked around on line earlier in the year when the blues should be in the bay and don't see half day bluefish trips. Do they all have to be reserved now? Or has bluefish trips all turned into striper trips that are booked for small groups only?
Anybody know if walk on trips are still common?

I dunno if the links Loggy provided you are for one of those "Big Giant Boats with like....90 people on board all around the boat" or not. Man, I went on two of those "trips" and hated every minuet of it.
If I'm going see fishing it will be on at least half-day trip charter boat with maybe 6 guys on board fishing.

Some out of Lewes were in the 35-40 capacity which on some weekdays were only half full. Agree on the smaller 5-6 guy charters. On the BIG jobs problem is half dont have a clue in how to fish which is a disaster!! lol

I don't remember how many the Anita M was set up for, but it was never more than half full any time I was on it on the morning weekday trips. I got on "the tradewinds" on a Saturday morning and decided not to try that again. The fishing was good but the chaos was a bit much even for a guy in his early twenties.
My wife and I took a half day trip out of York Harbor Maine while on our honeymoon. There were only the two of us and one other fisherman plus the mate and captain. The blues we caught there were 14-16 lbs and we had a blast. I don't know that Ill get back to Maine though.
We have talked about a charter with our sons but scheduling and one boy on the west coast makes that unlikely for a few years.

Loved to catch bluefish from the surf in NC over the years. Lately, the numbers appear to be down there. They reduced the limit on them as well. We used to have no problem pulling them out of the surf but it has been slim pickings lately.
