Spent the last 6 days at my VA place crabbing plus doing some flounder fishing. Time spent on that magnificant water was peaceful taking in what VA's great outdoors has to offer. Quite a few others out there on the bay (btw...no masks needed as boats were 100 yds plus apart lol). Plus even worked-in a lil opening-up maintenance to keep the Mrs happy. Taking grandson down in about a week...can't wait!! Caught 30 plus nice crabs plus an ice box full of flounder.

Ahhhh.. That's the pic I've been waiting for Loggy! Blue crabs in a bushel basket. Due to a multitude of reasons I haven't had steamed hardshells for years; and I sorely miss them. Used to be a Memorial Day/Labor Day tradition in the family but sadly no longer... And the price for a bushel now-days? !!!! Muab

Used to be a Memorial Day/Labor Day tradition in the family but sadly no longer... And the price for a bushel now-days? !!!! Muab I usually crab until a get a few dozen then steam or pick for cakes. Heard a bushel was going for around $200 up in the OC MD areas. I think you can do much better with a local crabber as last summer one near me was selling a bushel of large males for around $100(live or steamed). Eastern Shore MD/VA areas also normally much cheaper vs the higher tourist areas. Likely, with a lot of the restaurants only in carryout phase I would think plentya local crabbers willing to deal same as for clammers.

Spent last week at my VA place. Took 4 year old grandson crabbing last week off local pier. Had a blast!! Caught over 50 crabs off pier using Foxy Mate Topless T-120 hand traps. Many undersized(under 5") returned. All crabs looked very healthy. Looks like another great crabbing season ahead!! Future Deadliest Catch Candidate!! Won't be too long till he's ready for boat action helping to drop the big pots:

Fresh local squid plus Berkley Saltwater Gulp Shrimp is also good depending on time of year.

Loggy..Curious as to your knowledge of using aluminum boats vs fiberglass boats in saltwater.I see the Lund in the background of your picture. Is that your main boat In Va.?I would think salt after would be very corrosive on aluminum hulls?

My bought 2008 Lund SSV-16(new9 has been 100% saltwater used since new with zero corrosion. Lund hulls are manufactured with 5052 aluminium alloy, primarily alloyed with magnesium and chromium which has extreme resistance to saltwater corrosion effects. The marine-grade 5052 H34 aluminum is commonly used in USCG boats. Prior to my Lund I had an Alumacraft aluminum boat for 15 years(saltwater used) with no corrosion. Not sure on what aluminum alloy used in Alumacraft boats.

If you ever decide to go aluminum.....good to fully research as there's plenty of excellent alum/alloy hulls out there that's great for the harsh marine environment. Another reason I like a quality aluminum/alloy hull is that I fish a lot of back bay shallows in/around oyster beds which can cause havoc on a fiberglass hull.
