After several hunts of working nice birds from the roost, with no players except for hordes of Jakes, I finally made it happen on this frosty morning. Went to a farm were I had lots of Jake action this past Tuesday. Snuck in early to the roosting area only to be greeted by silence. I stuck around for an hour in case the birds weren't in the mood for talking but it remained quiet. On the other side of the farm, I could hear sporadic gobbling by a hay field so I made the decision to pack up my blind and haul it over to that field. It sounded like there was a bird or two still there by the time I got situated. I set up the blind on the edge and snuck the decoys out about 15 yards as close to the top of the rise in the field as I dared get. I let out a few calls and no answers but not 2 minutes later I could see a full fan cresting the rise of the field. He slowly worked up to the top and never broke strut as he crested at 30 yards and eyed the decoy set. I just needed about 10 more yards with the bow. He slowly came and when he hit 20 yards, I sent a arrow from the Ravin R26 into the wing butt. It was over in seconds. What a beautiful morning to be out. Sunny. Light winds. A gobbler down. And a few morels mushrooms on the way out. I didn't weigh him but guessing around that 19 pound mark. He had 1 inch spurs and 9 3/4 inch beard. Attachment Deleted

Way to go Gene!! One mighty fine looking longbeard there!! I got a #2 tag also but debating between chasing gobblers or heading out for some flounder fishing....decision, decisions! Good luck on your pursuit of #2!!!

Nice job Gene ! O don't know how you hunt turkey from a blind like you do. I can't do it. I need to see everywhere and I like to move to different spots to much. No way I can set in a blind and grow roots. I'm patient but just can't set right in a blind .

I'm patient but just can't set right in a blind . Since I mostly fling arrows at them now, it is one of those necessary evils. I don't particularly enjoy hunting from a blind but since they have to be close to get an arrow where it needs to be, a blind is part of the deal unless you really want to handicap yourself and don't use one. It certainly limits your ability to move around and chase hot birds.
