It's enough for sure....if the bird is close 'nuff to what you patterned it for.

I've been using nothing but a 20 ga for the past 8 years. In fact,I don't even own a 12 ga anymore.Between my son and I we've killed at least 18+ spring gobblers between 25 and 55 yards and every bird dropped stone dead.Federal heavyweight and tss has made 12ga obsolete for turkeys.A few years ago,I called 2 longbeards and 8 jakes into my son one morning before school. When they came in to 35 yards,he dumped the first LB.The jakes all jumped on the dead bird and began flogging him.I was just watching the show when my son jabbed me in the ribs and handed me his shotgun. The other longbeard was down the powerline quite a ways and when I put the bead on his head and squeezed the trigger,he dropped like a concrete cloud. When I went down to get him,I looked back and thought, that was a poke and I probably shouldn't have taken the shot.It ended up being 55 paces which is actually closer to 60 yards.A nice light 20ga with tss is all you need for turkeys.

The only shotgun my youngest son owns is a Remington Featherweight pump. He doesn't have any problem busting birds with the right choke and load.

Hopefully I'm going to find out this spring . I just got a Winchester 1300 featherweight 20 gage off gun breaker. Figure I buy a box of TSS and a box of heavyweight, just need to figure out what size choke I want to use. The only thing that concerns me is the amount of shot, I don't. like picking out shot from a dead bird.

I share the same results as Doug. Cleanly hammered a bird at 62 yards, miss judged , in a open field two years ago. He never even flopped. He had so much TSS in his head. Indian Creek choke in that little Remington is just way better then any 3" or 3 1/2" 12 gauge I ever shot.

Got the same choke Doug on my Browning Semi 12 ga 3.5". There may be better chokes out there but I have yet to find one better than George Trulocks!! Sure nice when you can get on the phone and chat with George!!

Good clean-up job Dutch!! Hopefully, thread will continue to have folks provide input/share experiences with using the 20 gauge for turkey hunting. I know Cspot recently bought a new Savage single shot 20 gauge and plans to shoot TSS out of it. Look fwd to hearing how it shoots etc.

WTH did you take my non-offense dig at TK down?I work hard to come up with this stuff and you have to jump on the opportunity when the material is in front of you.

I either remove posts, one at a time, which takes a lot of time, or I pick a post, and remove all posts after that. It's SO much fun.

Or did the market correction put a little panic in your plans? Trout season is just around the corner, you could stay at camp for days... Every day's a vacation day when you're retired-ain't it?

An informative article(below) re Federal TSS shells whereby re Guns.com writer discusses taking turkey w/20 Gauge at 16 to 53 yards using a 20-gauge using both the #7/#9 loads and the #8/#10 blends. Federa'ls expert product developer's comments: “In pellets, the increased density will extend the lethal range of the payload. Denser pellets fly farther and penetrate deeper.” Combined with all the modern chokes out there... today's turkey hunters have much more opportunity to extend a typical's shotguns effective kill range than ever before!! 20 Ga Federal TSS

Good read Loggy...
Brother and I hand build our shells. We use high brass casings cut to finish at 2 3/4", 209 primer, wad, #9 TSS, buffer and two cards to close it up with a rolled crimp and water proofed. The pattern is rediculess, penetration is unbelievable and the pattern at 50 yds is twice as thick as my Mossberg 835 with a gobblin thunder choke , running 3 1/2" loads at 30 yds. I can honestly say I haven't shot or touched a 12 gauge since my first pattering shot out of my 20 with this TSS. No need to...

I knew I wanted to work part time until I was eligible for SS. I needed away from the stress I was under for many years. Things just happened with health issues, a decision was made. No regrets.

I once had an 835 and only problem was after shooting had to go to dentist and get my fillings restored!! My 12 3.5 Browning semi does cushion recoil some but still not a pussycat. Curious what model 20 gauge Remington do you have??
