If I ever drew a cow tag, I would probably try for a female calf. It is basically a meat hunt and I am sure that female calf would do just fine compared to a 10 year old cow.

Wondering what took him so long? Maybe they had to get one to 20 yds for that 6.5 to work. Lol

The early settlers and pioneers dispatched elk with a .54cal. round lead ball doin maybe 1000fps. Anything better than that ought to work also.

I would try with the crossbow for a few days then carry the rifle as a backup if need be.

Apparently the elk dropped in it's tracks!
Someone once said the 6.5 caliber was only for punching paper

Then let's all just use 22's for everything.

Apparently, Loggy hit the cow twice in the lungs. Animal didn't flinch, just stood there. Third shot in the neck dropped it in its tracks

Hi guys!! My ole hunting/fishing buddy Dan(Acorn20 here) sent me an email earlier this week while I was on elk hunt asking on whereabouts. He said since new ownership he couldn't access other site. Never really left here but only been regularly visiting one site anymore but think i'll try to get here too. Miss a lot of you guys...even Dutch!! Used to hit iceshanty, bluecrab board etc etc but with keeping 3 grandkids 3 days a week been very time limited PLUS another one on its way in 5 weeks! I'll put my elk hunt report/pics post up here and will rub elbows again when my arms are free from changing diapers(all 3 still in diapers)! My Elk County Outfitter guide Lonnie Rensel showed me a pic hanging in his camp of TPlank w/his flintlock killed elk & asked me if I happened to know this guy?? Told Lonnie I never saw that character before!! Just kiddin Todd...told Lonnie about all our fun Late Season Hunts with Berks, Soupe, Bunky etc.

Two shots in the chest with a 6.5, and the elk doesn't flinch. Probably thought they were bee stings.😁
It's a joke, all in fun. 🤗
